Gunman Kills One, Injures At Least Four In Seattle

Updated 2:25 PM ET November 3, 1999

SEATTLE (Reuters) - At least one person was killed and four were injured Wednesday when a gunman in camouflage gear opened fire near Lake Union in Seattle, police said.

"Five people have been injured, one who is deceased," said Seattle police spokeswoman Carmen Best.

She said the shootings took place at or near a shipyard.

The gunman, described as a man in his 20s or early 30s, escaped after the shooting.

"We've cordoned off the area and have our officers trying to apprehend him," she said.

Police had no immediate information on a motive, she said.

I swear to God this is not only desenstizing people to guns (the four year old who bring a gun to school in OK , not knowing how dangerous they are) but also giving copy-cat killers the chance for publicity they will need to "go over the edge".

I'm getting worried living in such a big city with SO MANY possibly degruntled people. All I wonder is when it will it be my turn to die senselessly because some ASS**** can't deal with life. Or worse yet get crippled and have MY life turn to crap. Or worse even still see one of my loved ones get crippled and have THEIR life turn to crap.

Sorry for all the cuss words, but I don't want to hear anyone say that this IS NOT becoming more commonplace.

But still, change comes from within, so that is where we must ALL start. I still have hope, and that will never die.

And now I wonder... are the stories true? IS the government trying to outlaw guns with the populations permission? What about the mind control expiriments and the subliminal message tests? Could some of these people be victim of a larger plot? I mean heck, a few more of these types of instances and the whole country will be up in arms, calling for Big Brother to step in and make things alright.

We're all sitting ducks until the cops arrive.

It will happen again. And again.

Y2K will hit before the Feds can get any plans going, good or bad. They DGI and waited too long.

Imagine the mayhem next year on the streets ...

You know, I suppose, that the police are NOT chartered with protecting you (Protect and Serve to the contrary notwithstanding). Why don't you (and everyone else) carry and have at least some chance of defending you own selves. That IS your charter.

Yeah, but there's so many of us staying gruntled, we will always outnumber the disgruntled......

Why does every nut with a gun get national press coverage? Isn't there more important stuff going on in the world? People die everyday, so what.

-- Amy Leone (leoneamy@aol.com), November 03, 1999.

i think this is part of the vast left-wing conspiracy--"let's report on every single shooting in the country until everyone sees how bad those guns are and the gun people." not that there isn't some truth to gun issues, but geesh, since when did we report on every crime as it is being committed?

-- tt (cuddluppy@yahoo.com), November 03, 1999.

I don't mind if they report every shooting in the country. They should also report all the crimes stopped by private gun owners. Hint: It's more than 1 million per year.

Keep your...

As much as I like to pull out "Casablanca" and watch it on the VCR several times a year, it's the predictable media response of "round up and bash the usual suspects (the law-abiding gun owners of America)" which becomes especially tiring. I echo the sentiments expressed herein about those with CCW permits actually carrying to dispose of the Orcs (as Jeff Cooper likes to refer to criminals) at the time of their assaults. Certainly we'll then get the media bemoaning the disposal of such criminals ("there's no such thing as a bad cowpoke, only a sick one"), but at least we'll be detering THAT Orc from repeating his antisocial acts.

There seems to be an agenda to publicize anything and everything that previously went unnoticed in national media with regards to gun crimes. Obviously the crimes are heinous, but the reporting of them for the purpose of arrousing the masses to ban guns is also an attack on our freedoms granted and fought for over the centuries. Publicity for the sake of this 'agenda' is also an attack on our constitution and law abiding citizens. Lets focus on the 'why' of the crimes, and not on the 'how' of the crimes.

It's a matter of perspective, and our perspective is formed by what the media tells us is important. A few weeks ago, the local school districts (within a day's drive of Seattle) were sponsoring a public workshop, titled "What to do when there's a bomb at school". There has never been a bomb at a school in this medium-sized city. Ever. But, during the past 4 weeks, 3 children in this city have been murdered...by their parents. In unrelated incidents, none of these children were murdered by strangers, and not one of these children were murdered with a firearm...one by knife and two by strangulation. Where is the media attention and the public outcry?

I vote that all guns be confiscated. We can hope that we don't get killed while the police decide if/when they will help. Don't know about you, but helplessness certainly is appealing, isn't it?

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have butter.

Over 125.000 people die each year from Hospital related illnes which they did not have when they entered the hospital!

Deaths from gun related incidents is extremely small compared to hospital related deaths!

Hospitals are killing machines. Why don't you hear about that on the news?

-- freddie (freddie@thefreeloader.com), November 03, 1999.

I have always found it amasing that the newspapers, and news services will go to every length to protect their right to free speach. (Even the right to lie!) Because it's their Constitutional right! But on the other hand, do everything in their power to run down the Constitutional right of every citizen to bear arms. Where's the logic? Either the whole stands together, or whe whole falls apart!!

-- Night Eyes (Icanseeyou@inthedark.com), November 04, 1999.

Seems to me that a lot of people die from cars, and many are deliberate.

When cars are outlawed, only outlaws will have cars (including the politicians and bureaucrats)

Newsroom motto: It leads if it bleeds. (decision as to news "coverage")

Do you get updates on "news at 11" on Chinagate, Y2K (other than "survivalist" stories) or any of the other stories you might see on Drudge or World Net Daily?

This society is completely dysfunctional. Anything less than a Y2K 9 or a 10 and it will be business as usual.

Night Eyes, Free press?!?! ARE YOU JOKING?? We haven't had a free press in years! A press controled by greedy, manipulative, heartless, murderus, slave-holding, third-world-exploiting corperations is NOT a free press! We only have the ILLUSION of free press! The mega-corps decide what to report and spin the truth their way, often into outright lies! Because they are above the law of course! Weclcome the the beginning of the NWO, where lies are truth!! Ignorance is strength! War is peace! Freedom is slavery! Big brother is watching you!
