Paging Dog Gone -- What kind of grain mill did you by initially?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Although I have done almost all of my preps, I have not tested everything that I purchased. This includes Back To Basics grain mill. Is it the one you mentioned in one of the previous threads?

I have the Back to Basics Grain mill as a backup. It works pretty well with a pretty fine grind. Easier to turn than some other mills. My only complaints are a small hopper and several small parts that are easy to lose.

Thanx.

There's a possibility that we are going to do a COOPERATIVE PREPS buy of Corona's Victoria grain mills. Does anyone have experience with these grain mills? Has anyone compared the Victoria and the Back to Basics?

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

I have a Corona, but no experience with other mills.

I like the Corona. Great construction and a good price (mine was about $38). Grinds well, and grinds anything. You'll need to run grain through a few times, adjusting the burrs each time, for a truly fine flour. Also a good cardio-vascular work-out

Yikes! I don't have the mills here to look at (they are at Rancho Y2K Apocalypso!) but the first one I bought was one of those rectangular mostly plastic jobs for about $65. It works, but I wonder about its durability. Besides is makes about a cup an hour. (okay, just joking, but it's about as fast as your normal pepper grinder.) I ended up buying the top of the line from Lehmans.com which was about $200 more, but I could go into the bakery business with that.

Any more information will have to wait until I go look at them again to give you specifics. Hope this helps!
