How to make ff, rew etc work in Philips DVD 750

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I bought Philips DVD 750 cause it supports almost any CD-R and CD-RW disks. And of courtz also VCD.

However my home made VCD's (burned with Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 and its Video CD creatr) dont work fine. You can play them, but fastforward, rewind etc won't work. Also in the players displaypanel only VCD logo is displayed. No any playing times etc.

I haven't been able to test any commercial VCD's. How the VCD's should be burned? And witch would be good program for that?

Thanks in advance...

I solve this problem with the xing encoder and Adaptec Easy CD Creator 3.5c (4 should work too).

Make a new xing stream profile derivated from VCD settings (i used PAL). Click advanced settings and change 'Seq Interval' to '1 per GOP'.

Make your MPEG with this profile.

Put this file into Easy CD Creator VCD and make an image of the vcd. In your temp-directory, Easy CD create 4 files. (info, entries, lot, and psd.vcd)

Replace entries.vcd, lot.vcd and psd.vcd with the same files from a working VCD ( /vcd/xxx.vcd). !Don't replace info.vcd!

Burn the VCD. Easy CD remark that you have change some files. Don't cancel.

Please answer me, if this works or if someone have a better idea.

Might work, but there are few probs. I don't have any original VCD's where to copy those files.

Other thing is that I have alredy made white paper mpeg's. Should them be re-encoded to change values...?

I used to use EZ CD Creator for making my vcds and then I found something out. Stop using it and use Nero. It is much more stable and I have not yet encountered any problems using it what so ever, as opposed to Adaptec's software which takes some tweaking.

Hi ,

Nero makes the same VCD which are NOT working correctly on Philips Player. The VCD is playable but you can't ff/rw and there is no time display.

Michael

PS: Write to Ahead Software (makers of Nero) that there is a problem with different players. So they probably change this.

I am having the same problem!. Well. I am in Australia and i have a Philips DVD718 Player that can read VCD's (on CD-R and CDRW) created with an Adaptec EZCD PRO V4.o (140) and the LIGOS MPEG Encoder built into Ulead Video Studio 4.0 BUT there a re no track time displayed and the FF and RW functions don't work.... Have any of you guys found a definitive answer yet!.

I don't have a working VCD that I can get files from either!

Sounds like it may be simpler than the encoding. I got similar results on both my Phillips-Maganavox DVD825 AND my Pioneer DV-525. I found this behavior was caused by the "Playback Control." In the setup mode of the DVD825, I turned this off and got time display and was able to fast forward and rewind. In the Pioneer you turn off plaback control by using the "time" search mode versus the "track" search mode.

Bet that's the problem. The downside of turning off playback control is that you won't get the "chapter menu" that is on many professional VCDs (like those from Vivid)....

i just did two things and my Phillips dvd 825 ff, and rewinds with no trouble. I use EZ CD 4.0, set the seq interval to 1 per gop, also turned off the PBC, playback control off in the phillips setup menu.

Encode with TMPEGencoder (Es muy fácil, comprime con TMPEGencoder) www.tmpgenc.com
