Spoke with one of my electric utilitiy spokespersons about...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

the status of our electric power and Y2K. I was told that we had "our" (as in state) stuff Y2K O.K., but that because of N.E.R.C. rules and regulations, we might have to endure some "localized failure" of power if say, California or Washington were not completely Y2K O.K.

Does anyone out there know what the status of California and Washington are regarding their electrical Y2K testing, and what the results were?

I was also told that because of N.E.R.C. rules, we (as a state) were not allowed to cut ourselves away from the N.E.R.C. connection and sustain ourselves on our own hydro-electrical energy producing capabilities.

Lastly, I was told that if electrical power did go out because of a Y2K problem, to expect an outage of 6 to 9 days. Thank God for alternative heating and lighting.

Yeah...that's the problem with having excess Power...the FEDS sniff it out and what can you do...especially since our state is Republican, surrounded by states run by Democrats.

I expect rolling blackouts, at best, in January.

Rolling blackouts mean no rolling trucks. You cant pump diesel fuel by hand.

do you know what a localied blackout is?---the feds use this term to indicate a power outage for a whole state, a regional outage is multiple states.

good luck grounded

Notice Marc never told us who he talked to. Looks like just another unsubstantiated rumor - which of course to you Tinfoils is truth itself...

Y2K Pro,

Have you read the e-mail I sent you yesterday? I hadn't heard your response yet. (Remember, these links that you requested on Bok's chat last night:)

Go to the Senate's Committee for Y2K and read their 100-day report. Read the Executive Summary (will need Adobe Acrobat), especially check out pages 4 and 9.

If you don't have Adobe Acrobat, click the link below and download it free:

Take a look at what firefighters might be facing:

Or the different ways that embedded chips may affect us IF they aren't found or corrected. (Please note, some of the fixes are actually advice, not fixes themselves.):
