Golden Aster

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

The fall flowers of the Florida dry pinelands are now in bloom. They are small but showy. In addition to Golden Astor, there are Blue Sage, Blazing Star, Deer Tongue, Wild Buckwheat and many more I don't know. Taken at Oleno State Park, N70, Sigma 105, sensia 100.

IMHO this would be better with more depth of field. The out-of-focus near petals are a bit distracting; it's as if my eyes are straining to focus that area.

I agree with Douglas about the DOF. What I really like about this is the gradient background and the still-recognizable stem. If you don't mind losing the stem on the left, a square crop looks good, I think. You still have the gradiend and the stem, but the spider doesn't seem to be looking out of the frame as much. That also gives a very strong diagonal from the bottom left to the top right, ending with the spider. Too bad you couldn't get it to turn around!

Well, the spider is sharp! Pat

I think that it could work either way - sharp spider, or sharp flower and spider.
