Tabs due now!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

My current tabs expire in late November 1999. They're over 500 bucks (I put less than 5,000 miles on the car this year). Can I park the car and wait till January 2000 and pay only 30 bucks? Or since I've been "billed" do I have to pay the 500 something?

Park it now and pay only $30 after Jan.1st. Be careful driving to the license agent after Jan 1st as the police will be out in force trying to catch violators driving with expired tabs.

Well folks, all the best of luck to you, and weather you vote yes or no, go out and vote and exercise your rights.

As far as parking your car, no you have to pay the amount due at this time even after Jan 1st. In fact you will get tabs in January that are agian due November, it is not one year from the purchase date.

Second, you can, and I have been given a small fee ticket for parking my car without showing proper tabs that are current. Figgin Mercer Islanders. Thanks Pigs!

Have a great day!

You can park your vehicle with expired tabs or no tabs at all for as long as you want to, as long as it is not on a public street, or in the public right-of-way. Even though some of your driveway may be in the public right-of-way (probably is) it would be considered as being stopped or parked on private property.

It is also illegal to park a vehicle in the public right-of-way with a For Sale sign on it. I know, but it's true. This doesn't get cited to much. Used to go through the RCW's and MV laws looking for obscured laws. Then a friend and I would print them in a booklet for the other cops.

Also if you need some help in the future, I would suggest not calling them "pigs" when they show up. IMHO. You could get more attention then you wanted.

Ed - miss the fun of writing a ticket, then telling the person to have a nice day.

Ed;

Regarding calling cops "pigs"...or anything else for that matter. An old retired deputy sheriff told me one time about a law that is not on any books, but for which the perp is is ALWAYS punished.

It is called "Contempt of Cop". That knowledge has served me well through the years. Especially with the cop bro-in-law.

Ricardo

Ref: "Contempt of Cop"

Violation of this usually resulted in habeas grabeas.

One thing ac, even though I was in law enforcement for over 10 years, if I was pulled over some place where the officer did not know me, I always very courteous and said yes sir (or mam). You'd be suprised how many tickets you will get out of by just being a nice to them.

Ed - gave breaks if the person diserved it, except DWI's. Hated drunks, especially with they were driving right at me.
