Petromax pump up

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I have a Petromax lattern and I had been having trouble getting it pumped up to the correct pressure. The little hand pump was just too hard to pump and took too long to pump. I ordered an tire type value to replace the pump and put the bike air pump on it and man, does that work well. This evening I used the lattern instead of a flash light to milk my cow by and it was much nicer to have all that light in the milking shed. My Petromax has not put out this much light since I have had it. I highly recommend anyone with a presureized lattern to think about chaning the pump over to the type with a tire air value style and using a bike pump to pump it up.

I've got the Petromax, but where can I order the tie-valve conversion? Thanks.

Hi Roch,

You get them from Diane at Britelyt.

I just ordered one. EZ Pump valve. The cost is $16.99 (included S&H - Priority Mail) 727-856-9245.

chicken,

i have one also, and went with a foot-operated pump right after i tried the hand pump, which was way too slow.

my question now is:

can anyone think of a way of getting a "T" in there to allow EITHER the standard manual pump OR a foot/bicycle pump? i called britelyte but they said they'd have to look into it.

there must be a way of allowing a way to have both.

Diane has the valve you installed, and they have shades to go around the glass so light direction can be controlled [your dogs will love you if you get these].

Used mine to milk by the other evening, agree, so much better than a flashlight.

Found out that the hand pump that comes with the lantern will work very fast if the fuel chamber is full. I was at full light in about a minute.
