greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

If you missed the announcement, last week, here's the URL for the chat room:

Announcements:

When the chat room first opened, there was interest in using the room for "conferences" and scheduled talks. Since then, the interest in "formalizing" the room seems to have waned a bit. However, I did check with Diane, Chuck and Big Dog and they have no objection to eother of their fora being used for announcements, for any Y2K related "chat events" (Interest waned, before I got around to asking Ed Yourdon, the same question).
If you would like to schedule an event, please, please, please contact me first (either by e-mail or by paging me on TB2000), and plan on giving LOTS of advanced notice, out of respect for other users who are enjoying the informal chats.

I am looking around for other options, for the chat room. Some have suggested mIRC, and I do appreciate the input. My preference, however, is to enable forum folks to be able to chat, without having to download more software, so I'm still persuing other options.
There are several sites that let you set up chat rooms. So far, they seem to be running from one extreme, to the other - either they're as simple and featureless, as the current one, or else they're loaded with features, and give you full administrative access (I do NOT want the hassle that comes from having the ability to boot people out and do IP tracking. Now, I'm just one of the gang, in the room, and I want to KEEP it that way.). If anyone knows of a site that provides chat rooms, that meet my criteria, please let me know. I don't mind signing up for another service.

For those of you who can't hear the music, there's now a link at the bottom of the page, for the Cresendo plug-in. It's free and fast and easy to download and use.
For those of you that CAN hear the music, and don't want to(G), the interface on the music box is made to look like a typical cassette deck control panel...just push the stop button (It's the one with the square).

BTW, if the URL should change, for the room, I will keep the current site up, with a link provided to the new location.

Bokonon: I like the chat room. I like how easy it is to change your name. Last Friday was very cool, A&L, Unk D, Unk Bob, Bardou (sp?) Mike Taylor, Annita, and some others I can't think of right now were there. It was quite interesting and pretty great to talk real time to the frequent posters. Thanks!
