Has anyone heard from HI on an update re: this situtation? I haven't noticed any of the HI regulars on the forum lately...Any possibilty that the 'nets been 'cut'?

The strike is settled and longshoremen are unloading tp and rice again. don't know the details but things appear to be normal,The net results of the potential strike was to raise awareness of the fragility of the just in time inventory system, locally it is rumored that one person now has 20 100pd sacks of rice as a result of panic buying. those who GI'd sat back and watched The larger just in time retail houses ration certin purchases. The pending strike served as a wake up call and many, by panic buying, have stocked up and will have fall back stashes of rice and tp. for future shortages. As a GI I sat back and watched the rush but thankfully didn't have to fight the crowds! for the pollys the effects were a wake up call as they jockeyed for position in hour long check out lines (this with the computers working)The Hawaiian experience should be a object lesson in panic buying for the rest of the Nation.Even the military commasaries were limiting purchases.

Ditto to what the "old kahuna" said.

I for one am GLAD that they did't go on strike. Just the threat of one sent everyone running around. I was one who just "sat back" and let everyone else go bonkers over the existing stocks.

This was a good event in that it convinced my 2 sister-in-laws that "if you snooze, you lose"... waiting too long will not help you when the herd moves...

Another ditto to "old kahuna." Most of the GIs were relaxed...and went to our storage rather than the store for the rationed or scarce items. We did see rationing in some stores on Kaua'i.

Thanks for the update folks. Glad things worked out.

Could have been an "interesting" JIT experience, but I think we'll see enough of that in the next few months...

Aloha (did I spell that right?)

Tick... Tock... <:00=
