Road maintenance. What is it really?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Have you noticed what qualifies for road maintenance around here?

A squad of 8 to 10 people painting new stripes on the road. Stripes that for some reason mad most of the roads more narrow than they were before.

A squad of 8 to 10 people REMOVING the old 'bumper buttons' on the road and re-applying new 'bumper buttons' to jar people awake.

Installing THOUSANDS of 'bumperbuttons' on downtown streets where the top speed is never more than 20 MPH....but we wouldn't want anybody to fall asleep and cross into another lane.

New special stripes that make portions of the roadway that we have been driving on for YEARS ...'Off-Limits'.

Take a close look when you are out driving and notice that there are white lines marking the outer boundaries of most of the roads..THAT ARE NOWHERE NEAR THE ACTUAL SIDES OF THE ROAD. And if they were removed the road could possibly have TWO MORE LANES!!!

They did that here between Kennewick & Richland on Gage Blvd. It was 4 lanes. When they repaved it a few years back they restriped to to 2 lanes with a center turn lane. The left portion of the road they made into a bike lane. This on a 45mph road. So now when someone is driving at 25mph on it your stuck behind them.

As it is illegal to pass there.

But I digest, bike lanes are soooooooooo much more enviromentaly friendly then car lanes. Who cares if they cost the same when you use existing roads, or more expensive when you have to build from scratch.

Ed - use to cite bike riders when they road more than 2 abreast.

both of you, as you will see in the RCW's and WAC's, the local municipality has jurisdiction in those cases, not the State. therefore, you could have been a part of the process and been heard have you shown up when the cities were doing their capital improvement projects. but oh no, you just had to whine and bitch about it now after the fact. you can't play ignorant here.

theman?

I don't live in any of the cities I mentioned, so I had no voice at the council meetings if or when this was brought up. I do work for the City of Richland however. And if you think they listen to what the people say, your an idiot. I design roads, water and sewer systems. I'm tld where to run the roads and pipes by my boss. Then when it is being built is when the people know what is going on.

One other thing thewoman, the cities get matching funds from the state if they make bike lanes or scenic trails.

Ed - bite me, you loser

ed, didn't any body tell you not to bite the hand that feeds you. does Roger, Pete or Neil know your views on 695? the very people you claim to hate (public employees). You are one, do you hate yourself? Learn GMA, there is a public process mandated, so unless you intend to bring the city up to the hearings board for not following procedure quit your whining you pansy. and as far as state matching funds, once again I have to tell you the truth, the matching funds for bike lanes are ISTEA, which are federal funds. they are distributed through your BFCOG in a grant process. so next time you want to go head to head with me learn a thing or two or shut and go back to your maintenence duties like mowing or moving honey buckets. P.S. you may want to look for a yard work job here soon, have you seen where Richland has to make their cuts?

you spew "does Roger, Pete or Neil know your views on 695?" Yes, but who is Neil?

Also "as far as state matching funds," The only Fed matching funds I know of recently came for building a railroad track and the redesign for Keene Rd. The rest came from the state. If you have the proof it came form the Fed show me and I'll shut up about it. Okay!

As for maintenence duties, come on down, I'll show you a little cleanup.

Ed - your still a loser

Hmmm, a city employee disagrees with the mainstream government view. Remarkably, he has the courage to use his real name. Another government (presumably) employee decides to disagree with Ed. Unfortunately, this little mouse hides behind the shield of anonymity.

Why do I get the feeling you wet yourself in public?
