While I was resting at the Eilson Visitor Center, this fellow walked right up close to me to grab a snack.

Is this caribou molting, or has it been going insane trying to scratch itself from mosquito infestation? I like the contrast of warm tones in the foreground and cool in the background, but the overall effect of the photo, because of the downward angle, the cocked head, the rough condition of the animal's coat, its alone-ness (where's the herd?), and its proximity to the visitor's center, makes me feel sorry for what looks almost like a caricature of a caribou. I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I look at this, but it's a thought-provoking shot.
