I am a psychologist writing an article for Sports Australia about the role of sports psychologists and the dilemmas they face here. I need some statistics on how popular the field is in the States, i.e. how many sports psychs are there, who are the prominent people and the teams and athletes they assist, how fast is this field growing, the percentage of elite athletes and professional teams and coaches who utilize sports psychs etc.

I would appreciate anyone's input and the sources you used for your information.
