Will this solve the TROLL invasion?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Since the polly-trolls are out in force today, and there seems to be so much hand-wringing over their concerted disruptive behavior, Id like to offer the following:

The people that are here on this forum are not here to cause anyone to do anything but what they would normally do, should trouble appear on the horizon. If you are so certain that y2k will cause you no substantial grief, then why dont you act like the adults that you perceive yourself to be and go away? The sorry missives Ive come across today from the polly camp have done much to denigrate the image of those that wear the tag of polly. I certainly hope that it isnt indicative of the mentality of those that are in charge of fixing the problems. I would think that anyone from the polly group that truly does desire a proper discourse on the given subject matter would be equally dismayed by the words of the dissenters among todays posters.

What sort of mind feels threatened by the size of anothers pantry? Ive never really known that a years supply of food was considered a bad idea. If, in fact, its a mistake to keep such a store, then Ive been screwing up for ten years. I didnt realize that it was to my disadvantage to not have to run to the store every other day. I failed to realize as well, that I was missing something by not having the oh-so-wonderful feeling of running out of something that I was in need of. Stupid me!

Perhaps the thing that really threatens the polly mentality is the fact that some here own and operate firearms. Ive never shot any animal for sport, but I have had to take out the occaisional wild dog that was eyeing my children as though they were a pork chop. Other that that, Ive never shot any animal that wasnt destined for the dinner table. Also of note is the fact that my firearms are so well trained that they have never gotten up off of the shelf and killed a single soul, isnt that amazing? But youll never find someone more fierce should I need to defend my family. Dont want to get shot? Dont threaten my family, and you have no problem whatsoever.

The pollies seem to be bothered by someone exhorting others to come over to their frame of mind, but in so doing, are they not trying to persuade as well? Are they saying that persuasion is a bad thing? Should we make the forming of think-tanks and debate clubs a felonious activity?

I dont frequent this forum to hear a bunch of sniping back and forth, Im in search of whatever solid information thats available. The so-called doomers find stories that at least strive to be informative, (no easy task with the sorry state of journalism today), and I have yet to see that from any polly. The sniping is useless, and if it is indeed indicative of the thought processes of the IS people, then it truly marvels me that all the technology hasnt suffered global meltdown already.

There is no redeeming value to the chides Ive read today, so why bother reading them? Better yet, why be bothered by them? As long as it persists, I intend to read the name below to words before I read the words, and if the name is any one of the obvious trolls, (I certainly know the definition NOW), then I will simply skip over that particular post. I would suggest that we all do the same, and simply ignore the childish, often-mispelled, grammatically weak and completely void of any coherent thought, postings of the dwarf-like mentality. In other words... DONT FEED EM!

Can we get back to y2k now?

I agree, DON'T FEED 'EM

I made a post about a week ago, which I'll repeat here:

Intelligent people talk about ideas... Educated people talk about events... Stupid people talk about people...

What is it? Halloween? Full moon? Demonic possession? Kiddies found Mama's candy and scarfed too much? No supervision after kindergarten?

Oh! There's a slew of real Y2K news! Many failures. Hard undeniable factual reality coming in increasingly these days.

And even more terrifying to TPTB than, HORRORS, bank runs, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, sssshhhhhhhh, that report acknowledging that, ssshhhh, the IRS ain't gonna make it, ssssshhhhhhhhhh.

Thank you Patrick, well said.

I find that bringing up the subject of TAKING CASH OUT OF THE BANKS tends to do wonders with taming down the polly trolls. Like, "I hope that everyone caught the latest on Gary North's www.garynorth.com web site about how Canada may be imposing cash withdrawal restrictions in early December." Makes them VERY unsettled....

Right, KoS. And I notice these invasions seem to happen when ever there's something important going on--like a Senate hearing.

OG

I think the latest troll posts are because of the thread from "just another" on embedded chips. That seems to bring them out on a regular basis.

JBD is back?

Pantry Envy

You heard it here first.

What kind of mind feels threatened by the size of another's pantry?

A Marxist "mind," or a marxist-trained one...

Liberty

-- Liberty (liberty@theready.now), October 29, 1999.

Liberty...

You're absolutely right, it's just too bad most of the idiot/dupes of such a philosophy didn't realize that 'ol Karl was just one of the missing Marx brothers.

BTW - If you were to learn the true meaning behind Christianity, I'm pretty sure you'd be among the kindred. You sound like one now, to an extent. If you don't believe in "God-given" rights, then you'd have to believe in "state-granted" privledges, and while I don't know you at all, One can read your posts to know better than that.

Thank you Patrick'

It's been a long day. I'm thinking this URL must be a huge headache for TPTB. Their forces are out in full uniform.

Good night, everyone

Thank you Patrick for saying what needed to be said, BADLY. Personally I don't respond to polly-trolls at ALL. Not even worth the exertion required to tap out a response. Actually, the latest invasion has had two POSITIVE effects. The first is personal: whenever this happens, and I can see that trolls have invaded every single post with inane comments, it motivates me to not get on line for anywhere from 2-7 days, thus I get more preparing done. Got a LOT done in the last 24 hours alone. All those 2 liter bottles we've been saving for the last 18 months are now filled and stashed in all kinds of places in the house. Bought some more last minute preps. Got both battery operated carbon monoxide detectors up, made 7 loaves of banana bread (bags of ripe bananas 99 cents for about 6 pounds at local grocery) for putting in the deep freeze for gifts at Christmas or if needed post Y2K.

Another positive effect: I went to the web site Old Git told us about (others mentioned it, too) at which the trolls were actually talking about coming over here and jamming the bandwith as it were. I have a couple of friends who are GI who have never really checked out TB2000--just not enough interest in it, I guess. When I told them about this, they got VERY interested and came on over to lurk. They both commented to me they have never seen so much good information on Y2K, in all their surfing the Net. (TOLDJA! is all I could say) I find it humorous that in trying to stop people from preparing it has actually attracted more people to this sight.
