Just got this e-mail at work (Day Light Savings Time Issue)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

***, There would potentially be a problem with UBI (*a shop floor device used by everyone, I added*) confirmations because it puts elapsed time in. So, if they started an order at 1:50am on Sunday, and the time rolled back at 2:00am, and they finished the order at 1:30am. The elapsed time is really 40 minutes, but would show at -20 minutes. It wouldn't affect their pay because they are paid in eaches, but the elapsed time would be really off and would affect variances.

We (Plant Systems) suggest that everyone confirm their orders and sign off at around 1:50am on Sunday. Then sign back on after 2:00am on Sunday. Thanks, ***

Just one more example that if things aren't 100% perfect they don't work at all huh?

Now I see why this nonesense has gone on for so long. You guys take real example of failures and blow them WAY out of proportion. and try to pin it al on Y2K.

Personally, EVERY automated system I ever designed ran SOLELY on "Standard time". Advancing the hour for "Daylight time" was for COSMETIC DISPLAY purposes only (as in "just for the humans".)

The computer system itself was NEVER adjusted.

No claims on perfection (or imperfection), wasn't even a failure. No Y2k mention at all, just one of those routine, everyday things (or maybe just twice a year) that IT folks and management deal with so efficiently and effectively, or should it be, spontaneously and reactionary. Just one more small drip from a new system in the bucket of normal responibilities, I only question the size of the bucket....

Another example of establishment stupidity -- the twice annual ritual of diddling with the clocks. And naturally, one of the main justifications is, as always, "to save the children" (sob, sniff, snuffle) from going to and/or from school in the dark.
