DUNN ANNOUNCES OPPOSITION TO I-695, PUTTING HIM AT ODDS WITH GOP

Wednesday, October 27, 1999 By GREGG HERRINGTON, Columbian staff writer

State Rep. Jim Dunn, R-Cascade Park, announced Tuesday he is bucking his party and opposing Initiative 695, saying it threatens highway-construction projects in Clark County, takes too much money out of the state budget at one time and lets "tax and spend" legislators off the hook.

Dunn said he sympathizes with the idea of cutting taxes and wants to put pressure on "tax-and-spend legislators. But if we pass I-695, we are not holding them responsible." "The people are right," he said. "We should have addressed" the motor vehicle tax in the Legislature. But 695 would enable "those same tax-and-spenders to remain in office" without forcing them to act on cutting taxes in a responsible way, Dunn said.

The headline should have read DUNN ANNOUNCES OPPOSITION TO I-695, PUTTING HIM AT ODDS WITH 511,0000"

So Rep. Dunn feels our pain and sympathizes with the idea of cutting taxes. But he did not do a damn thing about them. Yes Rep. Dunn, you should have addressed the MVET, but like the rest of the politicians youre addicted to spending tax money. When you say that those same tax-and-spenders to remain in office" without forcing them to act on cutting taxes in a responsible way, all I can say is Excuse me Mr. Dunn but I thought that was why you were sent to Olympia". Apparently youve become one of the tax and spenders.

Ed No wonder less and less people are voting, what with idiots like this on the ballots

I just called Ruth Fisher's office and asked a staff person where Fisher was going to hold her resignation news conference at on Nov.3.

There was some sputtering, but I explained that I lived in Oly. and wanted to attend if it was going to be held here.

She took my number and said they would get back to me on that.

Now I think I'll e-mail Dunn and suggest that he may want to join Fisher in "The Kool-Aid acid test." He should get that mealy-mouth Ballard to join him in walking the plank.

BTW, Dunn was a no-show for the Town Hall taping tonite for channel 2 in Portland for broadcast this Sunday. He was supposed to make it, and didn't show or send word.

In fact, there were ONLY 4 elected officials that DID show up, and all of them were pro:

Benton, Boldt, Mielke, and Pennington.

Now, with all these government types so against this thing... where the hell were they?
