My Credit Unions' newsletter re. Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I picked up a copy of my C.U.s' newsletter on my last visit because Y2K was splashed all over the front cover and of course the main article was full of the usuall "we're ready" assurances. Then I noticed exactly how it was worded: "One thing you can KNOW FOR A FACT is that your credit union will be here to meet your needs." and "WE'RE READY! to meet your financial needs today and in the future."

These kinds of statements could be printed in any newsletter under any topic; not just Y2K. They certainly didn't reasure me or give me any factual information about their Y2K remediation status.

After reading this and feeling disgusted I flipped to the next page and lo and behold, another Y2K article. A Y2K checklist: 1. Fill all vehicles with gas. 2. Have a supply of non-perishable food a & water (i.e. canned fruit) 3. For security purposes, have only a normal supply of cash. 4. BEWARE OF PEOPLE OFFERING Y2K SOLUTIONS FOR A FEE OR SEEKING INFORMATION FROM YOU. (SCAMS) 5. Have extra batteries for flashlights and radios. 6. Have cold weather gear available (coats, blankets, etc.), with firewood and matches.

Dontch just LOVE the way they tucked that little one about not needing but just a lil' dab o' money , all the while telling you to prepare for the power to go down, the gas to shut off, the shipping industry to come to a standstill, etc.

I feel so much better now, after reading this newsletter, well, actually after going to Wal-Mart and spending another 100 on preps after reading this newsletter.

BTW: how do I get my text to space and tab and paragraph, etc. It looks good when I type things, but it's all bunched together after I submit.

Hey pizzaman! Your credit union is a little late, isn't it? My credit union first started talking Y2K in Aug '98. THEY were the one one who made me GI. They are ready and have been preppin' and asking members to prep since then. To my credit union I am MOST grateful. Sounds like you got a fast talking one! :-{
