I guess I get the gist of this; but what does he mean by "bandits" and Milne being overrun? Help.

The term "bandits" refers to "beltway Bandits", namely consultants that live/"work" near/within the Beltway (495), and bill the fedgov big bucks. I lived for 9 yrs near DC and am familiar with this lifeform.

"Milne could be overrun" refers to Paul Milne's farm/compound in "rural" VA that would be attacked by the angry urban masses fleeing DeeCee, Richmond, Petersburg, Hampton Roads, etc. Its location has been mentioned on several other newsgroups. I have relations in rural VA (Roanoke, Marion, Tappahanock, Spotsylvania); not sure how the "locals" would take to urban refugees (especially former beltway bandits).

Mostly... Hamasaki is saying that there will be problems with the computers.... Some computers will have problems recognizing the year 2000 and might interpret it as the year 1900 instead.

Further.....etcetera

Glad to have been of help.

Marsha, I think that the important thing to also note is the description of how the general demeanor of the attendees at the Washington, D.C. Year 2000 meetings have changed over time. I attended these meetings for about a year, from March 1998 through March 1999, and so can relate to much of what Cory said. I suspect, given the trend at the time that I stopped attending (due to my re-locating to Northwest Arkansas), there is not much room left for pollyannas anymore, what with time being so short and it being so obvious that Y2K compliance was just a pipe dream.

Maybe we should start printing bumper stickers:

"GARY NORTH IS AN OPTIMIST!"

That is a really scary thought!
