greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Here are the top 10 reasons to vote FOR I-695:

10. Two words "Safeco Field". 9. Mariners ownership being crybabies. 8. Snohomish county light-rail has been canceled while residents STILL paying that tax citing that this will save parking costs to the consumer by using the freeway for parking. 7. Snohomish county heald an election to raise property taxes and lost. Then the county counsel raised the taxes anyway saying "...We're just misunderstood..." 6. The current MVET is unfair and takes food out of your childrens mouths. 5. You can drive your gas hog cheaper. 4. You get to vote "NO" on every fee or tax increase. 3. Your representative keeps raising taxes for "Millenium Parties" that you aren't envited too and have to crash. 2. "Your government is a leach on your wallet and I-695 is the pill to rid you of it". 1. Consumers are a bunch of greedy, selfish Schrouge's that wants to keep every penny they can. Just like Big Business.

Vote Yes.

Bill you forget the welfare check that we are giving to the Seahawks and their owner!! While we are at it, check out Diana and Patrick they seem to be taxpayers employees, using our time and our computers, and getting health insurance, pension plans, college tuition... etc..etc.in our backs. We got the picture, YES!! YES!! I695

Don't forget Westin, who has admitted to being a *government employee* whilst ranting about all the scum & the filth mooching off the public dime. Go 695ers! Hypocrisy be damned!

Hey I too was in the Air Force a few years back and boy did I see my share of government waste of taxpayer $$$'s. They way our budgets worked was if you got $50,000 for the year and didn't spend it all, you would get less next year because you didn't spend your budgeted amount fully. Well no matter how hard they tried to explain to me the reasons for wasting it, I kept telling them that it was taxpayer money and not their own. If it were their own money, they would be cautious of where each penny went especially if their household life depended on it.

VOTE YES ON I-695! If you still think you should vote NO, read my board titled "Before you vote No..."

Found this in another posting and thought that it actually belonged here....

Here is a TOP TEN list of those who are for I-695.

1. The PARANOID. They see mystical entities called "government", "special interests groups", "lobbyist", etc., all of which have only one goal in mind - to get them and their money!

2. The DON QUIXOTE. Goes off "tilting at windmills" thinking that they are monsters.

3. The ISOLATIONIST. They think that they live in a society of one - THEMSELVES. If they personally don't benefit, then it must be BAD.

4. The COUCH POTATO. They sit on their backside all day long complaining, but refuse to get up and work within the system to obtain their goals.

5. The DISENCHANTED. They want to "tip over the game board" because they didn't get their way the first time.

6. The MESSENGER. They are sending a message that has already been sent.

7. The DREAMER. They think that only the "bad" stuff will go away.

8. The MONEYGRUBBER. They can't see farther than their wallet.

9. The SURGEON/BUTCHER. They think that you can remove a tumor with a cleaver.

10. The "KEEPING-UP-WITH-THE-JONES". They see something nice somewhere else, and want to get it with little care for costs orconsequences.

Frankly, by some of the posts that I have seen for I-695, I'm amazed that some of these people have stayed around here for so long!

Gene-

Has it deteriorated to the "I can't win the vote so I'm going to insult the opposition" stage? Apparently so.

Craig -

You mean that I'm the first one to resort to insulting the opposition... I think not! Insults have been flying back and forth across this site long before I ever started looking in. In any case, I apologize if you took it personally.

I believe that I-695 can work IF people become more involved in setting priorities for the government. And I don't mean just voting when a tax/fee increase is brought forth for everyone to vote, but through contact with their representatives, public forums, etc.

The problem that I have is that I do not believe that there will be any significant increase in participation if I-695 passes. Too many people will sit back thinking that they sent a message to our representatives and will refuse to take any pro-active involvement in setting priorities. That is what the pattern has been following the passage of the last few initiatives. (Too much apathy - too many Couch Potatoes!)

You and others, on the other hand, may disagree. You seem to have much more faith in the voting public. I hope that you are right. If not, who knows what the budget and priorities will be as a result of the I-695 fallout. (This is where the Dreamers come in - only the bad stuff will be purged!)
