Must read on the media...

About twenty posts down there is a post by Flint on the media

Buried midst the usual battles anticipated for such a post (aka Flint vs. Big Dog snarling match), there is a remarkable post by a former reporter named "normally" on WHY the media is doing what it's doing.

Is it true that Flint is attempting to sabotage the forum's operation? Can the sysops confirm this?

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

You always believe someone when they say they're a former reporter?

Yeah, and maybe they're a high-placed Russian KGB defector too. You define gullible.

Since Declan has been gored, you can take it as further evidence that "normally" knows what they're talking about.

-- BigDog (BigDog@duffer.com), October 27, 1999.

Actually I don't recall reading what 'normally' wrote in the thread (if there even was a post by such a critter). My comment was a generic one on how gullible some people here are. Duh.

I worked as a writer/editor/reporter for a looong time and didn't entirely agree with the post. There are many different types of editorial setups. Today, most journlists ARE computer savvy, BTW, as that is where a LOT of research is done. Remember, reporters follow "beats" and spend hours a day simply reading other media, press releases, etc. For NO intelligent Y2K stories to appear in the press, there has to be a certain amount of suppression, IMHO.

Declan the journalist doesn't read what someone else wrote, yet is willing to comment that others are gullible for believing what the person says? No wonder nobody around here gives him any credence. No wonder journalism is in such sad shape these days.

My post regarding the media was a reflection of my personal experience at daily newspapers over many years. It included observations I had not seen in this forum before. Just thought I would share them.

I agree other reporters may not see things exactly the same way. (Thank god there is more than one reporter "mindset".) Not ruling out suppression, just have not seen it. And would not put up with it if I saw it.

Declan, I would show you my clips, but I don't think it is worth my time. Nor would you care, I predict. If the information I shared does not ring a bell without my byline and resume, then by all means, please disregard it.
