Compaq sees Q4 revs rising vs. Q3, some Y2K drag

http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/991026/4o.html

Quote:

"During the conference call, Capellas stopped short of setting specific revenue or earnings targets for the fourth quarter, citing the difficulty of predicting year-end results in the fast-changing industry, combined with dislocations caused by Y2K fears. ``In the computer industry you will never find a tougher quarter to predict than the fourth quarter of 1999,'' he said."

Hmmm... wonder if this will impact tommorows market sentiment?.

If he finds Q4 hard to predict, what about Q1 2000?

Despite the fact that it traded up in after hours trading, the stock will be (should be) hammered tomorrow.

http://www.cnnfn.com/1999/10/26/technology/compaq/

From that article: "Revenue at Compaq's commercial personal computing group fell to $2.7 billion, down 12 percent from last- year's levels and a 16-percent decline from the second quarter, due in part to pricing pressures and the recent Taiwan earthquake."

Not from that article: Revenues dropped because they are selling fewer commercial pc's.

The stock should be hammered.

Yes, today should be worth watching. After IBM said Y2k was an issue the talking heads blew it off as IBM looking for a scapegoat. But now with Compaq doing it maybe, just maybe, y2k will get a new focus.

By the way, did anyone notice dollar/yen at 103.91 this morning. Wow.
