Wireless remote switch for Rebel 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I was loking at buying a remote switch for my Rebel 2000 and was wondering if there is any wireless system that is affordable (ie under $75)? If there are no reasonable wireless systems can i get some kind of extension cord for the normal RS-60E3 remote switch?

thanks. dew.

Since the romote switch uses a common jack size. All you would have to do is go down to a radio shack (assuming your in the USA and have one near you) and find a extension cable that will maintain the functions of the normal remote. Most stereo extension cable should do this. If it does not work, you could return it, if you asked nicely. Sorry, I cannot give a specific cable, but this is not a complicated set-up (unlike the T3 connection with the higher-end EOS bodies).

Actually, the Rebel series (and Elan II) use a 2.5mm "3/32 inch sub-mini stereo" jack. They are very uncommon; Radio shack only sells a female 3.5mm (1/8 inch "normal" mini stereo) jack to 2.5mm adapter. A good electronics store might find you 2.5mm 3-conductor plugs and jacks.

But the original question asked about a wireless remote... Canon does not make one for the Rebel. The only current wireless remotes are the LC-3 and LC-4 (for T3 and N3 jacks, respectively) and they run about about $300!

well...you see the jack is a 2.5mm standard 'mini' headphone jack. The three wires that come out of the jack are for the three sections on the jack. You can make your own switch if you have the jack. When the ground wire is touched to the tip wire the camera will focus, when all three wires touch the camera will shoot. A fairly simple switch mechanism to make. Look for some help at:

It has a number of different ideas for making you own and therefore having increased flexability over the standard factory switch.

good luck. jw
