greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I want to have a crack at the debunkers forum I have heard some of you talk about. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks!

Go right ahead crackpot.

Debunk

ahahaha younknowwho.....you are pure loser. I sure hope you are steril.

-- Cory Hill (coryh@strategic-services.net), October 26, 1999.

I already did, brainiac, at the bottom of another thread.

But anyway, I digress.

My original point that I want to make is that the Debunkers forum has a link here (to this forum) right at the top of the page where everyone can see, even before the threads themselves.

But over here? No links to the debunkers site, or ANY other sites for that matter. Maybe it was poor planning, or lack of planning. Or maybe it was just good planning done by idiots. That is irrelevant. The fact is that the Debunker forum has enough class to give links to a number of "enemy" sites, where TB2000 tries to squeeze a square cap onto eveyone's round head from the get-go.

Go ahead Cory, have a crack at them. I'm anxiously awaiting (as many are I imagine) your "triumphant return".

(Personally I think the intelligent crew over there is going to have a hay day with meek little Cory, but that's just MHO. See how hip I am, I can use acronyms too).

Im not planning for a "triumphant return". You are confusing your agenda with mine. I just want to see what they are posting.

Nice try though, sparky.

-- Cory Hill (coryh@strategic-services.net), October 26, 1999.

Actually, I was confused with your semantics, you know, having a crack at them and all...

Sounded a bit antagonistic. Apparently I was wrong. (I don't really think that, bu in the spirit of diplomacy I'll say it.)

I 'sawry.

...I don't expect to change anyone's mind here, I just wanted to let you know that we aren't all "DOOMERS". Some of us just decided that it is prudent to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst....especially in the face of uncertainty.

What do I lose if I am wrong? A few bucks? What if you are wrong?

Take care all...I won't be back!

(I know, I know, you all care don't ya) hahaha

peace

Cory

You tried to sound like Queen Shit from the Planet Terd, but wound up sounding like an unimportant, ineffectual, um...uh..., well... Doomer!

LIAR LIAR!

Yes I receive MUCH gratification from that. hardy har har

-- Mr. R (hee@hee.hee), October 26, 1999.

And on a more serious note, you ask what someone has to lose by not preparing?

Well, I don't know but i'll tell you what you gain:

1.) People hoarding dangerous/flamable amounts of fuel in areas not designated to hold dangerous/flamable materials.

2.) An increase of breakups and divorce when DGI spouses go up against GI spouses.

3.) An increase of scam artists bilking dumb people (who are dumb by no fault of their own). I have already heard of two instances where people have actually bought medications in order to resell them at higher prices. Medications that supposedly beat the Y2K bug.

4.) Lots and lots of extra guns and ammo laying around just about the time of New Years, when alcohol flows more abundently.

5.) Possile (unfounded) gas and money shortages induced by people stockpiling in the last week of December. Gas that could be better used to fuel fire trucks, ambulances, and cop cars. Remeber the TP scare that got started on the Carson show many, many , many years ago? It's called Believing Everything. Factor Millenial Madness into that very real, albeit stupid, human occurence and it's no wonder so many intelligent people try to debunk this nonsense.

Your welcome.

Well, I don't know but i'll tell you what you gain by "preparing":

(That's what I meant)

Oh, you left one out MR R:

Starving and freezing to death in the dead of winter.

-- no talking please (breadlines@soupkitchen.gov), October 26, 1999.

People do that all the time in this country.

Where have you been for the past hundred years? How come you didn't blow the whistle back in 1890 to get people stockpiling... THINK OF ALL THE LIVES YOU COULD HAVE SAVED!

But no, your just a Yourdonite/North flunkey... here today, gone tomorrow.

But if you decide to set out on a mission to get people to stockpile food, clothes, and houses for poor people then God Speed to you Brother Shamus.

-- (the ubiqitous@Mr. R), October 26, 1999.

1. Farmers always have high amounts of fuel and I've never heard of their homes blowing up.

2. Perople split-up and get divorces everyday for various reasons such as infidelity, incompatible, jealousy, anger.

3. There's been scam artists since the beginning of time. If one is gulllible to take the bait then you deserve to lose...Publisher's Clearing House for one comes to mind.

4. Guns, yea, guns, and ammo, more guns and ammo, so what's illegal about that? One can never have enough.

5. What's having a few extra dollars in your pocket and a few extra cans of beans on the shelf going to hurt? Anyone watching all the disasters happening around the world, would do well to have some emergency supplies around. Who and what and where is the harm?

Shallow excuses my friend, very shallow. Try again.

-- hoarder (hoarder@hoarderrr.xcom), October 26, 1999.

No sir, I shan't.

If for no other reason than #4, but that is enough.

Not that it matters anymore, but to answer a previous question: The reason the Y2K Debunker's Forum has links and the like on the main page is because it's a special-purpose site -- greenspun.com is basically a one-size-fits-all site (if you go to the main page, there are LOTS of other forums out here). Okay, now that we've got that out of the way, I think I'll just stand aside and let Round 2 begin...

If you go to the DeBunking site, you will notice that they have to use our threads in order to have any kind of conversation with themselves. They have no new or fresh ideas, it a constant picking on people and information on this forum. I have no idea why they even exist except they are one bored bunch and have nothing else better to do, what a sad commentary.

LOL!! Do you understand what the word "debunk" means??

-- (LOL@LOL.LOL), October 26, 1999.

What does debunk mean? I am just a doomer. We are actually quite simple folk living off the land, taking our simple opinion and posting it on the world wide web.

-- simple doomer (what@is.debunk?), October 26, 1999.

Yes I do, but there's not one single original thought of yours for debunking. Why don't you come up with research on your own and use it to debunk us? Haven't seen it. Give me us some evidence.

Yeah sure. And what about all the off-topic threads that are started here by lonely people who just want a ready audience? 'tis to laugh. White vans, contrails, tinfoils, you call these fresh ideas? Fresh manure, maybe!

again?

-- (cleanup@crew.cam), October 27, 1999.

........ yeay ........!!

-- (all@done.now), October 27, 1999.

Where do you get this "queen shit" idea? Im a GUY dumbass! No wonder you can't get Y2K straight in your head. You fly off the handle making crack decisions without any research.

So I lied(about posting)sue me :)

-- Cory Hill (coryh@strategic-services.net), October 27, 1999.

Okay, KING shit from the Planet Terd.

I stand corrected your majesty.
