Tourney 2 - Did we settle the leaderboard tie situation?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

The rules page states that we were going to compare the scores of the people who are tied in leaderboard points at the end of the competition, and say whoever beats the other in more games wins the tournament - if it was 5 - 5 then it's a draw. Is that rule acceptable to you, or do you want to declare the tournament a draw like we did in tournament 1? Or do you want to do it another way?

On a similar note: What happens when two people get the same score in a game? Will it be a tie and will they get the same amount of points for that game, or will there be some secondary criterium used as a tie-breaker?

Give 'em the same points... if the top scores are level, they deserve it, same as the leaderboard. At least T2 doesn't have any max-out games, does it?

Problem here, people using MAME32 will be at a major disadvantage if having to use Mame34. I would suggest Mame32 users be able to use Mame35 Final, as what was acceptable last tournament, due to no problems with the rerecord cheat with WinMame. (aka Mame32)

I think tie scores should get the same points also. I think one of the games does have a max score. Lode runner?

I don't think I'll be getting that score though. :)

Yes, I was thinking of Lode Runner. Anyone who has checked MARP recently will understand that I have every intention of maxing Lode Runner out once more. ;-)

I will handle all problems in one shot. Why not Mame34, because my comp was built very crappy, and can't run in DOS in any enviroment. Also prevents me from using the penguin as well. Two, WinMame34 is soooo buggy it's not feasible to use. Three, what happened to no more than 20 pts, (using old 10-3-1 system) allowed in the tournament for any particular player. I know that would throw out Lode Runner, perhaps LR3 or 4 in it's place would be better.

If there's a tie in a single game it means that both players worth the maximum score.

If there's a tie in the leaderboard, the idea of a "one-on-one" sub- contest (who beats the other in any game) is fine, but I'm afraid it will result in another tie easily enough (if you want your statistician to calculate the exact probability of this event, he will do !!!! ;-)))

Therefore I think the best way to solve a tie will be to compare the max #1, and eventually the max #2, and even the max #3, if needed !!!
