BEER,WINE, AND LIQUOR !

Can anyone tell me how long beer, wine and liquor will keep? Does beer keep better in bottles or cans?

Hubby makes own beer....Will it last longer than "store bought"? He usually drinks it all or gives it away before we can find out.

Thanks.

In my case,.. about 1-2 weeks.

Fatal.

I don't think that homebrew will last long, that stuff never stops fermenting. Most of the storebought bottled stuff will last for years, of course Budweiser will tell you different because they've got the "born-on freshness" date. If you get some Everclear like I have (for medicinal purposes only, of course) it will last until the Earth is vaporized by a coronal mass ejection.

Anything in cans tastes NASTY after a while...

I make my own beer. It tastes best at 3 months, but according to the brand I buy, (wineart homebru) will keep up to 6 months. Of course, beer should be stored in a cool, dark area. I don't know about wine, but I make my own wine as well (also from wine kits), and have drank it after a year and it's great!

Unopened liquor stored in a cabinet should last "forever" at least 10+ years, red wine stored properly should make it 10+ years but IMOHO cold beer never "lasts" more than the one or two weeks Andy refered to.

Bill is correct about liquor and beer (store in cool dark place), but make sure that you do not store liquor in leaded crystal decanters. The lead will leach into the alcohol over time. It's okay to pour it into the decanters for parties to pretend you are offering the good stuff, but remember to pour it back into the bottles (using a funnel) when you become sober again.

Wine varies considerably. White does not last more than two years. Young reds like merlot, gamay, and beaujolais are similarly short-lived. Better red wines like cabernet sauvignon, and those from Burgundy can last (and even peak) between 5 and 15 years from the vintage on the label depending upon the quality of the year.

If a wine is very old, be careful with the cork as it may disintegrate upon opening.

"White does not last more than two years. "

This is false,I have had MANY whites that were at their peak at 3 years old and many more that were still pleasant at 5 years

I had a white burgundy recently that was over ten years old! It was obviously well past its best but still pleasant enough

I'm storing white wines for the short term (<2 years) and red wines for the longer term (and for serving with appropriate meals). Red for sacrament, too, of course.

If you like dark somewhat sweet beer, consider barlywine. I understand it stores more like wine than beer. Sorry, no references. I learned this from a small retailer with the best stock of imported and homegrown beer I ever saw. Also I know he hung out with a beermakers club. Anyway, barleywine is real mellow and GREAT!.....BTW, any pipesmokers out there? What are you storing and how?...Go ahead and email me if you want....Also I have a good source for cheap but good cigars by mail. I'm not affiliated with the company. I used to smoke $4-5 cigars and these are just as good...If I think of any other vices I'll postem here. Hehe...Hee's mud in your eye, Alobar
