Like thousands of other island residents, she set out for the store to stock up. She was too late. end clip ***************************************************** ouch!

Those people are going to be in deep doo-doo when the supply chain breaks down. Hope they have a LOT of pineapples else they may have to resort to cannibalism.

Having family in the islands, I can vouch for the fact that far too many residents look to the government for their handouts. The consequences of a supply chain failure are ominous. Hope we don't see such a failure. Yes, it could be very ugly.

While the (tentative) agreement has been reached (but not yet voted upon by the workers), the panic that happened was instructive. The first warning about the possibility was almost a year ago...and people didn't stock up. But when push came to shove, the panic was evident.

It's a good foretaste of what the week after Christmas may be like... Wish it were not so, but it seems to be human nature.

I have family in Hawaii too. I have been advising them to stock up and prepare, but they believe what they read....Hey, the fact that so many of them bought Clinton's story right up til the bitter end should tell you something!

Seriously, most Hawaiians are unconcerned, even though they are aware of their isolation. The most I could do was to get them to put aside some water and a little extra food and cash.....hope that gets them through...I know my sister in law and brother in law have done NOTHING and will no doubt descent on them with their kids.....Then there are the old folks with the health problems. If this thing is big, as many of us fear it will be, heaven help them all....we are too far away to do anything except pray and watch.
