My CU recently said I will be unable to get "y2k cash" from them after December 8. Is anyone else receiving similar notices now? See sightings thread.

Heard something here about BankAmerica limiting withdrawls to $100 cash recently, but do not know any details.

I haven't heard about anything like this in Victoria yet. What I did hear was conserns about investments on the local news and that if folks are worried they should error on the side of caution and get out of the market. This was a suprise and welcome advice from a "conservative" investment community out here. LOTS of old money in Victoria.

I will be keeping half an ear listening for more information about CUs and Banks. Our biggest CU has a earthquake proof bunker with Y2K compliant records incase the worst happens. They really GI.

Rachel, I would rather eat dirt than agree with Y2KPRO. But he makes a valid point. What is Y2K cash? And how is it different than regular cash? If they are going to regulate cash withdrawals, then it has to be within federal guidelines. Sounds a little strange. Y2KPRO- Can't you just ask for clarity? Why do you have to be such an asshole about it? If you didn't always post in such a rude and arrogant manner, you might get a little respect around here. I can only assume that you are here to disrupt rather than exchange ideas.

My guess is that if a long line of people showed up at any bank in Dec., it will announce a $500 limit per family. Other banks will follow soon. The Y2K movie out Nov.21 depicts a run on the bank.

YES! My girlfriend has a friend who is a banker in North Carolina, and she called us to warn us that "all those people who think they are going to close their accounts or take out their money this December...well, they're going to be disappointed, 'cause it's NOT going to happen." Seems she managed a branch at Chase or NCNB. And yes, she said she reduced her balances to $100 per account, due to some "memo from upstairs(?)".

Sorry, everyone, for taking so long to respond. After posting the link I was unable to get back here until now. Thanks, Margaret, for giving people the source because I was referring to First Calgary Financial. I copied directly from the insert, and the wording did not elaborate on the expresson "y2k" cash...I guess they just assumed everyone would know what it was.

I have the awful feeling quite a few people are going to get nasty surprises when they do finally get around to stopping by the bank to pick up some "y2k" (or whatever you want to call it) cash.

No problems with Exchange Bank here in northern CA (so far). Withdrew $300 per day from the ATM 3 days in a row (so far...) and stashed it in a locked fireproof box.
