Which is Worse: Big Brother or Y2K?

Which is Worse: Big Brother or Y2K? Ten years from now, will people be suffering more from losses incurred due to Y2K-related collapses, or from rampant Big Brotherism? Ie, will computers arise Terminator-like from the Y2K ashes to enslave Joe six-pack?

Big Brother's goal is evil, soul-less and without heart. They will not stop till the world is full of genetically correct drones.

Y2K is mechanical, soul-less, without heart, but can be repaired (eventually) and life can go on (hopefully for the better someday).

Eric Blair's answer: "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--for ever." Or so he wrote in '1984.' Rather bleak, but hard to imagine any other end than a vast sea of human ciphers, numbed with entertainment masquerading as news, rendered inarticulate by government education, besotted by prescription mind-benders, soulless from etiolated religion and selfish from programmed consumerism. An elite cabal of the 'far-sighted' blue-printing the beehive, never understanding that even golden meritocracies can be dangerously misguided.

wELL. Y2kcan be a lever. Instead of just bitching about things, maybe we can do something about it - seeing as how things will be all shook up for a while. - great opportunity for change.

Big Brother has become bloated by project creep and needs to be replaced as soon as possible

There is hope if people begin to realize that they, themselves, are "big brother." Every time a group pushes the legislature for more rules and regulations to govern another person's or group's behavior, they are feeding big brother. Zoning, helmet laws, building codes, "environmental" regulations, etc., are strangling freedom to death.

I, for one, am in favor of "local control"; commissions to review and remove unecessary laws; jury nullification; and other peaceful forms of protest.

There are way other that regulation to handle conflict between groups and behaviors originating out of perceived ignorance. Don't feed the government more power. Use education, incentive based promotion, cooperative and colaborative processes. Directing change is like taking on the role of master gardener. If you want to direct growth, you must nurture, train and prune. The process must be gradual and go with the nature of the plant or it will die in the process. Consider the bonsai......

Y2K can be recovered from over time. Maybe ten years or less (EY's prediction) or generations (Infomagic). But the average citizen will be able to control their own success by their own actions.

Big Brother only gets worse over time. Absolute rulers who are morally berift likely become even moreso, like the Roman emperors of the final era of Rome (see Caligula and compare to Klintoon).

Under Big Brother you have no control over your fate. Like in the Communist countries you simply fill the role in life dictated to you by the bureuacrats who decide for you. Your job, your home address, your education, the size of your family, how long you live, all decisions out of your control with Big Brother.

Think of humanity as plants facing a Y2K that's a harsh winter or a brushfire. We should survive and may possibly thrive in the aftermath.

But Big Brother puts a future of being a lawn. If it's the right kind of plant, it lives but it's always trimmed, cut and kept under constant scrutiny and control by the ruler of the lawn.

Given the choice, I think I'd rather take my chances with Y2K.

But what if BB were benevolent? What if he fed you, clothed you, housed you, sang to you, patted your back when it needed patting and strived always to make you content. But he has rules: no guns, no odd literature, no naughtiness, no public urinating, and you'll need a permit to visit the Wilderness. And to have kids. And we'll need to sequence your DNA, to look for areas of improvement. A rising tide in the gene pool floats all goats. What if everyone felt confident, hopeful, esteemed, important, rich, and right, except...you? Big Brother would remonstrate with you, argue, plead, but eventually he'd have to get tough with you--after all, he IS Big Brother.

Charter 99 The Charter for Global Democracy In September 2000, less than a year from now, the United Nations will convene a special Millennium Assembly as a global summit on the future of the world. This event will crown a decade of preparation to launch the new millennium on a new system of global governance. The blueprint was published by the Commission on Global Governance in 1995. Now, a Charter to achieve global governance has been developed for presentation at the Millennium Assembly next September. It will be published publicly on UN day, October 24th. It is called The Charter for Global Democracy. It has already been signed by influential leaders in 56 nations, and has the support of civil society non-government organizations around the world. The document is, in reality, a Charter for the abolition of individual freedom.

Principle # 1: calls for the consolidation of all international agencies under the direct authority of the United Nations.

Principle # 2: calls for regulation by the UN of all transnational corporations and financial institutions, requiring an "international code of conduct" concerning the environment and labor standards.

Principle # 3: demands an independent source of revenue for the UN, such as the "Tobin tax" and taxes on aircraft and shipping fuels, and licensing the use of the global commons. The "global commons" are defined to be "outer space, the atmosphere, non-territorial seas, and the related environment that supports human life."

Principle # 4: eliminates the veto power and permanent member status on the Security Council.

Principle # 5: authorizes a standing UN army.

Principle # 6: requires UN registration of all arms and the reduction of all national armies "as part of a multilateral global security system" under the authority of the United Nations.

Principle # 7: requires individual and national compliance with all UN "Human Rights" treaties and declarations.

Principle # 8: activates the International Criminal Court, make the International Court of Justice compulsory for all nations, and give individuals the right to petition the courts to remedy social injustice.

Principle # 9: calls for a new institution to establish economic and environmental security by insuring "sustainable development."

Principle # 10: calls for the establishment of an International Environmental Court.

Principle # 11: calls for a declaration that climate change is an essential global security interest that requires the creation of a "high-level action team" to allocate carbon emission based on equal per-capita rights.

Principle # 12: calls for the cancellation of all debt owed by the poorest nations, global poverty reductions, and for "equitable sharing of global resources," as allocated by the United Nations.

** *** UN Dictatorship OR American Sovereignty It has been boldly stated by former U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali that "The time of absolute and exclusive sovereignty, however, has passed..." That's the real danger to the United Nations. For more detail on the United Nations plans for individual Americans and OUR LAND please consult the following U.N.documents.

1. The U.N. Convention On The Rights Of The Child; the United Nations plan to separate the child from the parent and make the child a ward of "the state." For details on "--- this new concept of separate rights for children with the Government accepting responsibility for protecting the child from the power of parents, economic exploitation and social neglect." read the UN document at

2. The European Commission (EUROPA) Teaching and Learning Towards The Learning Society; the U.N. plan to control the education of American children.

3. The World Health Organization (WHO) Nations For Mental Health; the U.N. plan to control "YOUR" Mental Health. This U.N. program helps nations around the world change and monitor the ways their people think, choose and act.

4. The U.N. plan to take over all civilian police forces; a U.N. cop on every corner In America??:

5. U.S. Senate affirms United Nations International Criminal Court. (July 17, 1998) The United Nations is currently putting the finishing touches on plans to create a new "International Criminal Court" (ICC). With tentative approval from theU.S. Senate and the American Bar Association, the proposed court would subject American citizens to the jurisdiction of foreign judges.

6. U.N. Agenda 21, the U.N. plan to control "YOUR" community; the U.N. plan to dictate to all Americans "where" they can live and build their homes, schools, churches, businesses, roads etc.

7. The U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity (1992), the U.N. plan to control the use of 100% of the land mass in America. The Convention on Biological Diversity, was opened for signature at the 1992 Rio "Earth Summit." To view an alarming visual perspective of this plan in a multi-color relief map; click on the following: THIS IS A MUST SEE "Inside Yellowstone, the U.S. Park Service is shutting down campgrounds as the park is being prepared to become the core of a huge biosphere reserve, as part of the United Nations global biodiversity plan," he said. "Once established, no human activity will be permitted in the area," even though U.S. taxpayers must continue to fund the maintenance and upkeep of Yellowstone and other popular outdoor tourist sites.
