Remember sales tax on food?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Having lived here for some time, does anyone else remember the horror stories Washington State voters were fed when we approved the revocation of sales tax on food items? The same "sky is falling" scare tactics were used then that are being used now for I-695.

And for those who lived in California in 1978 when the California State voters approved Proposition 13 (a property tax rollback to 2% of current valuations), these same fear tactic radio ads were used then.

The bottom line is, "It is time that the State of Washington become as fiscally responsible as other states. Since the elected officials refuse to be leaders, let the power of a democracy take action!

VOTE YES ON I-695, because it's OUR MONEY!

"Since the ELECTED officials refuse to be leaders, let the power of a democracy take action!"

Nice oxymoron here!

Whether or not 695 passes, I invite you to start communicating with those leaders we elected.

Heheh,

In clarification to my "oxymoron", we live in a Democratic Republic in which individuals are elected to respresent the interests of the majority of our citizens. We do not live in a pure democracy, where citizens vote on every issue. But when our representatives' opinions are in disagreement with the majority of the common people, it is time for a democratic solution. Initiatives that are chosen for acceptance or rejection by vote of the population provide a peaceful, and more direct means of reforming our government.

"Whether or not 695 passes, I invite you to start communicating with those leaders we elected. " Passing 695 will be the strongest possible communication with the PUBLIC SERVANTS that we elected.
