The English artist Richard Hamilton has made a series of prints to illustrate this chapter (and others.) He compares Joyce's development of styles of English with a visual equivalent; the development of art styles, from Easter Island statues, Egyptian convention, Renaissance (Bellini), Rembrandt, Cezanne, Picasso, Duchamp, and Abstract Expressionism. The drinkers and the nurse who chastises them are depicted in the various styles.
