Canned Goods Shortage beginning in Chicago?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

An employee of mine (who is a GI), brought this posted notice to my attention, for whatever it's worth. Perhaps this will prompt more GI's who are on the fence to move a little faster. When the DGI's see these notices, they'll start buying. Don't get behind 'em.

A very small sign posted in a Dominick's Fresh Food store in Palatine, IL, a large suburb of Chicago notified shoppers;

"To out valued customers:

Beacause of higher than anticipated demand, we are experiencing temporary "out-of-stock" conditions from our manufacturers on selected varieties of canned fruits and vegetables. Over the next few weeks we expect this situation to be corrected.

We are sorry for any inconvenience."

Good luck!

Canned goods can last a very long time just as long as they aren't dented or leaking. I believe we will start to see some panic buying soon and the stores are well stocked getting ready for it (at least hwere I am at).

Yes..there was a great thread a year ago on prepping with grocery store canned goods, with the reminder that expiration dates are: SELL BY. Canned good undented will last you 4-5 years. Cheap prep, friends.

I don't think this is an area wide problem. I live in the area & there have been fantastic sales (some also without limits + an extra discount for purchasing by the case). I have not run into any shortages.

Dominick's is the highest priced store around, why shop there anyway?

Most grocery shopper know that this is a standard response. This is not news.
