Can anyone direct me to a good source for these items in Women's sizes? I only see a man's GoreTex coat in a sportsman's catalog and silk women's longjohns in it and another catalog. Need to order soon. Thanks in advance!

I need thermal underwear, too - both men's and women's. Since I live in Florida, this is a difficult product to find. Anyone know the best/cheapest place to order online? (North Florida - it can get in the 30's frequently.)

Thanks much, friends. On your advice I went to LLBean, but didn't find a parka that looks like deep-cold weather use, with hood, etc., as in the men's in the sporting catalog I mentioned. So I still need a source for that. However, I did find the GoreTex gloves there that I have heard much about, so thanks for the lead to these.

Another vote for Lands End....most of this family's wardrobe comes from there because their clothes are quality made and timeless styles. When my daughter got a squall jacket there they exchanged it for free when the zipper broke...after 2 years use. Their guarantee is the best and they don't think every female is a size 6...although their clothes are sized generously. Their kids clothes last forever so can pass down easily and quality clothes don't look old and grungy after a few washes like bargin clothes do...sometimes you do get what you pay for !!

You might look at www.roadrunnersports.com. These are clothes designed for runners. They wick away sweat to keep you dry and keep your body warm while keeping the elements out. Layer silk or polypro underwear under fleece, then top with goretex to repel snow and rain. Their catalog explains it well.

If you're looking for warm clothing that you can work outside in then go to http://www.tractorsupply.com. They carry all kinds of very cold weather work clothes. I live in Nebraska and have a horse ranch so I have been out in -25 wind chill working. The BEST outside work clothes I have found are the insulated coveralls. I am 5'4" size 9 and wear the size M short. The insulated duck work clothes are awesome. They take major abuse, don't rip or tear, and nothing beats them for keeping warm. Just put them on over your clothes and off you go to work outside (even been out in 10 degrees with only longjohns on under them LOL. They have insulated work gloves and boots also. Now none of this stuff is good for round town but for working outside you can't beat them.

Thanks to you all, I spent a very slow morning at work visiting all the sites you listed above. Found lots of GREAT stuff that is on my prep list. For dakota and anyone else needing this info, I found that Lands End had the largest number of items on my list from Polartec pajamas (also had robe and slippers...sigh...would love!), Polartec gloves, hats, scarves. Had Silk Interlock long johns and tops, wool "ragg" socks, and various parkas. The MPX Regular Supplex looked good, but isn't Polartec.

Sierra Trading Post had many items as well. You'll find a fall-weight Polartec fleec jacket reduced from $70 to $30, but not a parka. They had markdowns on many items, from silk longjohns to fiberglass fleece Polartec gloves, to large lambswool scarves, to tall Maine Street boots (alas, limited sizes left), to Shearling fleece boots.

Didn't find what I was looking for at tractorsupply or roaddrunnersports, but they had many interesting Y2K prep items.

campmor had the Luggable Loo ($17.99) and the Reliance Hassock Portable Chemical Toilet ($29.00), neither of which I have been able to find in stores in my area.

So thank you one and all, and I hope my "shopping" today will also be of help to others in saving you some time in research.

When I was a little girl, we had real warm, one piece p.j.'s that had a little flap in the back so when you wanted to go to the bathroom, you could just pull down the little flap in the back. Since the homes were kept pretty cold back then until the coal got the furnace going, it was great as you didn't have to take the whole thing down and freeze. Even with two piece p.j.'s you still have to take the bottoms down somewhat and get quite a chill. I was wondering if any of you have ever seen a one piece p.j. like that in any of the catalogs or internet sites -- for kids as well as adults. Thanks.

For the thermal underwear try JC Penney's catalog - they will ship directly to your door if requested. Gempler's has women's outdoor wear like Carhartt, etc in their catalog at www.Gemplers.com (plus a lot of country type equipment you can use). If you fit into a man's coat size, buy a man's coat. This is what my daughters and I did until we finally found women's outdoor wear last year.
