Thank you, Betty Alice!

This deserves a separate thread ...

"I am a farmer. Saturday I found two one inch diameter blue reflective circles pasted side by side on the sign (private property) designating the name of my farm. Three possibilities are : gun owner, y2k food storage, or a signal to garbage men to search my garbage because I have many friends in the Ohio Militia.Or, maybe a 4th possibility a signal to the martial law guys to seize the farm according to Bill's executive orders in time of emergency.Any other farmers see anything like this? Better start noticing. Today my farm helper said a white van with a blinking light on top came up aour lane and backed out again. I had removed the blue circles on Sat. I will see if they reappear.

Two or three days ago, I noticed that my water meter had been sprayed a bright blue, and that the street address was sprayed right next to it, on the street. I suspect this has something to do with the water company finding and reading my meter, but now I need to go up and down the road and see if other addresses have beeb similarly painted. The difference between us and the other folks around is that we have a well.....and land in production....Please hope that everyone else's meter was sprayed too!

-- Mary (mary@blufrogg.com), October 19, 1999.

Maybe you and your farm about to go under protective custody? There isn't any reason to mark your signs for confiscation. It'd be no different than the 30's Dust Bowl, a tracter would take down the sign and home, not place it on further display.

North Korea had to place soldiers around its farm fields because the people were sweeping through in the night and eating whatever was growing before it could even ripen. Macedonia had the same crises with the refugee's though they went back before guards had to be set up.

Frankly, I think one ought to call and find out what is going on and not speculate about it. It may be something very favorable to yourselves, and if not, there's always cousin Alice in the city you could visit. Well, fourth cousin maybe, but there's nothing like family!

-- Paula (chowbabe@pacbell.net), October 19, 1999.

This is a common practice by the locals in the rural areas I have resided. Very useful for spotting your turnoff on those very dark nights on the poorly marked country lanes where all crossroads and drive-ways look the same. Very handy when giving friends directions to your house also.

But she's probably right... it's no doubt a signal for her garbage collectors to sort through her garbage.

Nice catch Bob. This is sobering news indeed.

-- CD (not@here.com), October 19, 1999.

Is there a fire hydrant located next or near your property line? Fire departments mark properties with blue reflectives in case of an emergency. Also, a spray painted white line depicts the location of water meters. If no explanation, keep an eye out for that white van and take a drive in your neighborhood searching for other blue reflective circles, sometimes they are embedded in the pavement.

-- ~~~~~~ (~~~~@~~~~.xcom), October 19, 1999.

I live in a small town of about 5000. I've noticed recently that almost the entire town has those spray paint lines along the curbs. Lots of helicopters buzzing around lately too. Things just seem a bit wierd.

Paranoia is a heightened state of awareness.

-- (notsay@now.com), October 19, 1999.

Uh...gotta point this out. Betty Alice didn't attach these reflectors to her sign, so the question is WHO DID? How could it have anything to do with garbage collection, unless garbage collectors have suddenly decided to work at night. Look forward to more info on this subject.

Paranoia:

1: a psychosis characterized by systematized delusions of persecution or grandeur usually without hallucinations

2: a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others

-- CD (not@here.com), October 19, 1999.

Read where ther CIA defines paranoia as "an adult response to reality."

-- Patrick (pmchenry@gradall.com), October 20, 1999.

My morning paper company does that with the dots so the driver knows I pay for weekday and weekend paper delivery.. Could this be the same in your case?

-- cassandra (cassandra@usa.net), October 20, 1999.

Mary and others: Check out the area to see if other things similar and suspicious. And, if you don't get a straight answer from the water department (calling anonymously) either paint out what they painted OR paint everything else in the area similarly.

Like in Denmark in WWII, the gentiles put on the mark that was put on the jews.

-- A (A@AisA.com), October 20, 1999.

I don't think I would get too excited about this. Here in Wyoming they put white reflectors along the roadways, yellow ones denote an intersection of another road, and blue ones to indicate driveways.

They always put them on posts around here though. Was this the case or did they actually attach them to the sign? Betty indicates that they put them on her sign itself, and I would question that by calling the county engineer and asking what the h--- they think they're doing, and see how they respond.

-- Don Wegner (donfmwyo@earthlink.net), October 20, 1999.

I went down my road and removed all reflecting circles and tape off every sign that indicated there was a road. At night these things stand out telling everyone there is a road here. No one has bothered to replace any of them, so I guess no one is keeping check. If y2k turns ugly better spray paint over reflecting arrows pointing to your house.

-- Carol (glear@usa.net), October 20, 1999.

Carol--

If its a public road and someone drives off the road (in fog perhaps) and wrecks their car, you could be held liable for removing the road markers. Just a thought...

-- Sam Mcgee (weissacre@gwtc.net), October 20, 1999.

Carol! People driving in the dark need those reflectors in order to find the proper turn! Good grief!

-- helen (sstaten@fullnet.net), October 20, 1999.

* * * 19991020 Wednesday

Sam, helen, et al ... Read the quoted item; pay attention to DETAIL!

Someone TRESSPASSED--WITHOUT OWNER PERMISSION!--on PRIVATE PROPERTY belonging to Betty Alice!

Private property is not a public thoroughfare for TRAFFIC!

Typically, the blue/amber/red reflective stickers are attached to paper receptacles to denote delivery status; convenient for the delivery person. The owner may remove those stickees, if so desired.

Note, too: Roadside mailboxes and/or newspaper receptacles are usually installed in the public right-of-way. NOT PRIVATE PROPERTY!

No one has any right to post anything on PRIVATE PROPERTY without permission from the owner.

As the days wane toward Y2K, people had better pay close attention to DETAILS--or the lack of--from what will surely proove to be a whirlwind of disinformation and distraction from public officials re Y2K, ostensibly to avoid Y2K "herd" panic at any cost.

Betty Alice: Glad you took them off. Have you called and investigated or would that not be such a good idea? I think R. Mangus' post above says it all.

Paronia: A Heightened State of Awareness.

-- mar (derigueur2@aol.com), October 20, 1999.

Thanks, Bob, and all who responded. I thought I might get flamed for this, and you were all very kind. We will get liscense numbers (license? can't spell it ) of strange vehicles from now on. Son keeps borrowing my car so have not been out to look at other farms. I shall call the garbage company and county engineer. Good suggestions. I will keep you posted on further developements.Still feel slightly silly about this.

-- Betty Alice (Barn266@aol.com), October 20, 1999.

Geez, Betty Alice, don't feel silly about this!!! It's always the little things that either hold things together or breaks it all apart.

I'd be every bit as concerned if it happened to us, believe me. Two blue reflectors on your sign...Not cool. Were they actual plastic reflectors (like on a bike), or more like laminated paper? The paper ones would be much cheaper, especially if "they" we going to use a lot of them. Blue is NOT a normal color for road/driveway markers, at least not around here. And if it was the garbage or paper person, where would they stick them at places that don't have a sign? On the mailbox or the mailbox post, right? So, unless lots of your neighbors have signs for their places, it sounds to me like a rather unique designation.

I wouldn't like it. Not one little bit.

-- Arewyn (isitthatlate@lready.com), October 20, 1999.

Arewyn, oh, cripes! Now I am going to get serious about this. These stickers were of a very heavy quality and very hard to remove. Better get off this forum and start research. Thank you.

-- Betty Alice (Barn266@aol.com), October 20, 1999.

Betty: Hello, is this the garbage pick-up department?

Clerk: Yes it is. May I help you?

Betty: Why are you puttin' blue reflector buttons on my sign?

Clerk: I don't understand mam.

Betty: Don't pull that playing-dumb act with me!

Clerk: Uh, can you explain what...

Betty: DON'T GIVE ME THAT! I know those 'flector buttons are a secret signal telling your men to sort through my garbage!

Clerk: Uh, I'm sorry mam but why would we...

Betty: 'Cuz I know people in the Ohio Militia, that's why!!! You're goin' through my garbage to "get" sumpin' on 'em. You know; secret plans they sent me in the mail or sumpin' like that. Well I'm wise to your tricks bucko and I aint gonna let you get away with it! Keep yer stinkin' 'flector buttons OFF MY SIGN! -click-

-dialing-

Betty: Hello, is this information?

Operator: Yes it is. May I help you?

Betty: Yes. Could you get me the number of the Martial Law Firearms, Food And Farm Confiscation Department please? Those SOBs put blue reflector buttons on my sign and I aint gonna let 'em get away with it!

-- CD (not@here.com), October 20, 1999.

Bob -- I have no problem with Betty Alice removing reflectors from her private property. Carol, on the other hand, may be going down a public road removing legitimate reflectors from public property. Blue reflectors have marked driveways in our county for over ten years -- the regular reflectors on the side of the road are yellow. I NEED my blue reflectors, thank you.

-- helen (sstaten@fullnet.net), October 20, 1999.

I don't want to sound like a Polly but.... lighten up people. This kind of crap is just food for the Debunkies. You sound like a bunch of paranoid doomer nuts. And we don't need that. There are dozens of possibilities. My paper guy puts shiny stickers on my paperbox so he knows if I get the weekend paper or just the weekly. I'll probably get flamed for this but this board gets out of whack sometimes. Caution is important-paranoia is a waste.

-- (rcarver@inacom.com), October 20, 1999.

Read the "Arizona" thread, above.

If you're not "paranoid" about US troop movements, you're sleeping. Given the degree of firepower being turned against US citizens now, fear of this kind of "tagging" is justified. At the very least it underscores the degree of fear people have for their government: "when government fears the people, there is liberty; when the people fear the government, there is tyranny." - Jefferson.

Cohen tells us we should "welcome" troops on US soil, as if the presence of a standing army weren't viewed as a cancer by our founding fathers. And they were right; it's the beginning of the end. Please wake up.

Notice that the warnings about "militias, terrorists and right-wing extremists" follow thick and fast on the announcements of US troop "exercises?" That means anyone who objects to this will be branded a terrorist and deal with accordingly. The Davidians weren't even branded "terrorists" and look what was done to them.

We will wake. But when? In time to save the Republic?

Liberty

-- Liberty (liberty@theready.now), October 20, 1999.

Liberty, I agree with most of what you just said. I don't trust the government or military "leaders" and I'm becoming even more concerned with the apparent increase in military movement. However, I'm talking about blue shiny reflectors on signs. I just think this sort of thing can and should be checked out before getting freaked out and starting unsubstantiated rumors.

-- (rcarver@inacom.com), October 20, 1999.

Mr. Carver,

I agree completely. But to me, the significance of this event is the underlying fear which the stickers precipitated. That fear of government is itself a sign of the times. We are headed for tryranny.

Liberty

-- Liberty (liberty@theready.now), October 20, 1999.

I agree 100%

-- (rcarver@inacom.com), October 20, 1999.

Ok, I drove around looking at most of the farms in this area. There are NO blue circles on anyone elses mail boxes, fence posts or signs. However, I shall drive a few more miles tomorrow in the other direction toward the main north south route nearby. I called the sheriff, he knows nothing about it, I called the garbage guys, and they said they use orange stickers not blue, I called the paper and they said they would have the manager call me back tho I had discontinued the paper 5 months ago.the mystery continues. If I figure it out I will let you know.

-- Betty Alice (Barn266@aol.com), October 20, 1999.

I also saw several white panel vans on the 101 in Farm land. They had radio antenas and emergency light, like a police car. I was very curious....let us know if you find out...my left hand thinks food source+marshall law=we ate your farm. Thanks in advance and please be orga

-- Marilyn (me@MarilynEllis.com), October 21, 1999.

Could they possibly relate to nearby fire hydrants? In California we have blue so-called botdots (reflectors embedded into the road), to indicate the location of hydrants. I believe there are other colors for other services. Apparently Bot was the name of the guy who came up with this idea. I know in many other states the botdots can't be used because they would be pulled up by the snow plow equipment. So maybe this is how they point them out where you live... just attach the reflective dots to whatever is handy...

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage), October 21, 1999.

Your son put them blue thingamajigs on yer sign so when he was close to home after a night of heavy drinkin' and drivin'(while borrowing yer car), he could tool in smoothly without drawin' attention to himself.

-- Feller (feller@wanna.help), October 21, 1999.

There is no such thing as a fire hydrant here. We have a volunteer fire dept. with tank trucks and hose connectors for ponds. That partdicular son does not live here, so he can go to his home drunk anytime he wants without me knowing it. Tee hee. Soon I will have 15 deer hunters here who have promised to "take care " of me should it be necessary. Someone on this thread mentioned protective custody for farms. If that is true why don't they tell me about it? Also, I only have 463 acres and 63 head of cattle. Other farms here have 1000 acres and over ,much bigger operations, and they have no blue circles on their property.

-- Betty Alice (Barn266@aol.com), October 21, 1999.

Liberty, How do you know I'm a Mr. ? Now I'm feeling paranoid.

-- (rcarver@inacom.com), October 21, 1999.

Ah, let the debunkers have their fun too - though it is irritating to have to split each paragraph into pairs-of-cr*p and paragraphs....

The blue reflectors to mark fire hydrants are real, but are placed only where fire hydrants are city-maintained - rarely in extreme rural areas where there miles between houses and no tax basis to recover costs of hydrants. Hydrants anyway are only possible, are efficient only when the water main runs along the road.

The standard blue fire hydrant reflectors are IN THE ROAD, are located 6" on the side of the median stripe of paint towards the fire hydrant: if the hydrant is the driver's right, the reflector is on the right 6" over. If the left, the reflector is on the left.

Never on private property, never on "posts" because snow belt drifts would hide the pole, or would hit the snowplow.

Sorry to feed on your concerns, but unless you (personally) put the reflectors on your property, they are an invasion of privacy. The FBI/ATF and other government terrorist group are now - have been propagandizing their upcoming campaign against y2k-activists for months - witht he full encouragement and cooperation of the anti-gun media - I see no reason not to be at least mildly suspicious of their intentions.

-- Robert A. Cook, PE (Marietta, GA) (cook.r@csaatl.com), October 21, 1999.

As another poster mentioned elsewhere: "Paranoia is merely a heightened sense of awareness." Given that we have an out-of-control government which is unwaveringly intent on complete control of all us peons, it is perfectly valid to be suspicious of ANY of their actions, no matter how purportedly benign.

If there are any stickers and tags without your having being notified by whom and what for stuck, then you have double reason to be suspicious. Rip 'em off! And do it all along the road, so that you are not the only one NOT marked.

BTW, I used to deliver papers. We didn't need no stinkin' stickers.

-- A (A@AisA.com), October 21, 1999.

BTW again: The reasons for ripping the stickers off applies to any so-called public property in your vicinity, as well as your own (supposedly) private property. f* 'em.

-- A (A@AisA.com), October 21, 1999.

The newspaper called me back today and said their carriers never put stickers of any kind on customer's property. She was quite irate about this.If you see any news about an old widow's farmhouse being shoved off its foundation by Bradley tanks and burned to the ground you will know it was probably the mother of the Ohio Unorganized Militia. If those guys are foreign troops in Blue Bonnets they will never make it home.

-- Betty Alice (Barn266@aol.com), October 21, 1999.

The government does not use reflectors to find or mark your property. Your property can be marked with a bar code system or by aerial view. How do you think they find dope growers, meth labs, and nonpermitted buildings you have placed on your property. The government is well aware that you have a farm just be viewing your tax returns. Don't worry about it because there's nothing you can do about it. If it were a bar code sticker attached to your sign then I would worry.

-- don't fret (don'tfret@don'tfrettt.xcom), October 21, 1999.

don't fret, how will the government read the bar codes and see me from aerial photos after their satellites go bonkers?

-- Betty Alice (Barn266@aol.com), October 22, 1999.

I Got It!

Your reminder about the satellites and basar-coding is the clue I was missing - I can't believe I missed the connection between bar-coding houses and the satellites. Well, bettee late than never - thanks for helping me see the link.

It's the the shingles! See they've concealed the bar-codes for each house in the "supposed" random lines embedded in the tab's and colors in each shingle. A different pattern could be used for eachhouse, but that must have been too expensive - but a simple combination of tab sizes, housearrangement, north-south alignment of the roofline, and the colr creates a unique paatern (like fingerprints) for each house in the country.

And like fingerprints - where only a few Points and Whorls are actually needed to be saved in a pattern - they don't need to record the whole thing to uniquely identify you, just a few points - the house can be uniquely identified by only a few key data points.

Combine this with a geo-synchronous map overlaid with the satellite photography - and bingo, your house is recorded into the "Preservation Geophysical Database" where it can be linked directly to the Walmart/COSTCO purchase records, the gun show records, and (of course) the national email database: that combines all your credit reports (and purchases) with your bank records and the driver's license records. Cross-linked (of course) to the state tax records so thay can find those cheats who try to use false adresses in their COSTCO application.

---

Not to worry though, the satellites will be fine - the fed's simply won't be able to control them or download data from them if the troubles persist....

-- Robert A. Cook, PE (Marietta, GA) (cook.r@csaatl.com), October 22, 1999.

So nail a couple tarps over your roof, in colors that contrast with your current shingles. It will foil the gummint scanners, and certainly raise your property values too.

Thanks for the inspiration, Robert!

-- bw (home@puget.sound), October 22, 1999.

Betty Alice--Through hand-held bar code scanners.

-- don't fret (don'tfret@don'tfrett.xcom), October 22, 1999.

There are some states that are experimenting with bar coding for traffic purposes (Uh huh). The idea is to put a bar code on the side of your vehicle, then when you are on the freeway, a bar code scanner is placed on the side of the freeway. They want to place bar code scanners on all vehicles, it's another way for big brother to keep track of you. San Francisco has had a lot of problems with cars running through red lights and this a way to catch red light runners. Also police and highway patrol do not have to call dispatch to find out who the vehicle belongs to, he/she just scans the bar code for instant information.

-- don't fret (don'tfret@don'tfrettt.xcom), October 22, 1999.

The obvious answer is gun collectors are targeted by the New World Order& Betty's farm has been designated as a target range for them.Bar codes are embedded in the blue circles .It is time for Betty Alice to repent.

-- Dr.Strangeglove (Zoro@screwthem.com), October 23, 1999.

This has *GOT* to be the most ridiculous thread I have ever read. It's very telling however, and stands as an excellent example of how truly deep the paranoia runs on this forum.

-- CD (not@here.com), October 24, 1999.

I think there's an element of paranoia in all of us. Some of us have been at this Y2K thing for a long time and nothing surprises me anymore. I suppose if the same thing happened to you CD, you would be wondering about it yourself and posting here for feedback.

-- don't fret (don'tfret@don'tfrett.xcom), October 24, 1999.

Well, here we are, four and half years later, and no postings since Ocotber 1999. So what's the news with Betty Alice's blue dots, the spray-painted water meters, etc? Are the Y2K Conspiracy Theorists feeling a little ridiculous now that the new century has been going strong for several years now with no Governmental take-over? Wait... I'm wrong about that. It DOES seem that we've lost a lot of our liberties, thanks to Secretary Ashcroft, President Bush, and the terrorists at home and abroad. But that had nothing to do with Y2K.

-- O. Stone (bmurphey@aol.com), April 04, 2004.

There were concerns about terrorism back in 1999/2000 as well.
