hi all

i live in (Bahrain-Arabian gulf)ok the tempreture reaches almost 50c. here in bahrain we cant get tempreture controll devices and i find it very difficult or imposible to control it by ice. is it ok to develope the film in high tempreture like 34-38c i know i have to decrese the time but i red somewer it is not recommended to develop below 5 minutes. at this temp.

Response to tempreture control

Hamad

Look for a compensating developer, like Diafine. It does not act like conventional developers. You first soak the film in Solution A where the film absorbs developer according to the exposure you made. Then you transfer the film [without washing] to Solution B where the development proceeds to exhaustion of the Solution A which was absorbed. I don't think temperature would affect that process and thus you could still use the normal development time specified by Diafine [5 minutes in each solution as I recall].

Good luck.

Response to tempreture control

Hi Hamad

I've been experimenting with HC110 recently. I've found that dilution d (1+39) is less sensitive to altering development times than is dilution b (1+7). Since enzymatic reactions are faster in higher temperatures, diluting your developer may give you more latitude with your development times so that you won't blow out all the highlights.

Response to tempreture control

We have the same problem in Florida. I've switched to Ilford XP-2 film which is designed for (C-41) 100 degree processing. It's not the developer temperature that I worry so much about, but the warm wash water softening the emulsion excessively. Mitch

Hi Hamad, Here are things you can try - Develop only in the nights -Cool the dev, fixer, washwater in the refrig to 18 deg C -Study the temp rise with plain water and arrive at start temp -Use stock sol for min dev time -keep the tank in water at 20 deg c throught -Change the water if required Hope this helps Raj
