Will I be required to pay my tabs by Dec. 2000?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

My tabs are due to be paid by the end of December. If 695 passes will I still be required to pay the full amount ($700), or will I just be paying $30?

Karin--

In general, if your tabs expired on Dec 31, you should only need to park your car until the department of licensing opens up on January _n_ (whatever the first business day in January is).

If you purchase your tabs in January and I-695 passes, you'll get the $30 fee. If you purchase your tabs in December, you'll be charged the full fee.

If your curioius, there's a story in "The Seattle Times" that talks about people who are parking their cars for several months in anticipation of I-695's passage.

Just remember that it is almost a certainty that 695 will be in court for months while the lawyers and judges try to figure out exactly what some of the provisions mean, and if other provisions are constitutional. You may need to park your car for more than a few months to get that $30 tab, and it may never happen. No one knows what will be in effect if it is passed, while the court considers these issues. Poorly drafted. Bad law. Vote NO.

We just purchased a new (used) vehicle, and for your information, we got around the license tab thing by purchasing one with tabs expiring way into next year. It doesn't help if you have a car already.
