Canon Vistura: Comments?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shooting DV Films : One Thread

I'm looking for a miniDV camera in the $900 US ($1300 Canadian) range and am considering the Canon Vistura. I would appreciate any comments from people who own or have used this camera. Thanks.

It's a very good consumer camera. I have footage that aired on "E" that was a celebrity profile and nobody but the producer had any idea the shots didn't come from their expensive betacams. The camera has better than average image quality but I would recommend the GL-1 over it. Depends if you just want a good consumer camera or actually want to do real work. The vistura has not enough manual control if you are professionally lighting shots and 3 chips is better than 1.

Thanks for the info, Mark. I'm basically looking for a small camera which I can experiment with, take with me when I travel. However, if I like some of the things I've shot, I would like to be able to use it for broadcast. I'd prefer not to spend a lot on a camera at the moment, so I'm looking at the better consumer cameras like the Vistura which I've heard some good things about. I would probably convert some of the stuff I shoot to black and white, so 3CCDs wouldn't be important for that. Otherwise, I'd probably look at the TRV900 which seems to be a great camera.
