greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

This is an outstanding forum. I appreciate the effort that has gone into it and I have made a donation to support your good work. But in spite of your requests to the contrary, certain people like to show their ass while using fake names and addresses like "IQ>60@brains.com, speak@englishor.die, iamright@youre.not, etc". Is there a simple filter you can use to check to the validity of the email address before posting the msg.? Thanks and keep up the good work! Wayne

Doesn't it seem strange that the Yes on I-695 group use their real names and e-mail addresses and the No's have to make theirs up. I will admit that I have done this, however I did put my real name at the bottom of the post.

I post my real name and e-mail so people know that I have nothing to hide and that they can e-mail me in private if they want to talk further on a subject, which has happened. I mainly have problems with the name callers which chez@washington.edu is one. I asked him to respond to what I felt was a personal threat but got no response. I would have kept the authorities out of it until I called an ambulance.

In the interests of far too much information. . .

The administrator of the Lifetel site has very little to do with this LUSENET forum. It's most likely administered by one of Philip Greenspun's compadres (MIT CS prof teaches database theory; author of "Philip and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing," "Database-backed Web Sites," and "SQL for Web Nerds"; lead principal or some such thing at ArsDigita. . .IMO, these are the premier books on web design if you want to build a *usable* website).

In my opinion, the fake email addresses only move from annoying to obnoxious when they're used to post original questions. Given the number of anonymous (ie hotmail, bigfoot or dejanews) free email providers, privacy is a bulls*** excuse for using a fake email address.

As far as a me-too goes, I appreciate the work the web admin at Lifetel has done on this site. It even works nicely under lynx.

It's possible to filter the domain on a poster, but it would eliminate the entire domain which would restrict others from posting.

Soooo,

For the sake of everyone, we endure the mice to allow everyone else to post.

NOTE: Please watch the foul or distasteful language. Everyone can make their point without it.

Thanks to all who contribute to the forum.

I gotta agree with nixing the obscenities. It's way too much fun to come up with new names to call people who don't seem to be functioning properly...
