Does anyone know the kero consumption rate of a DYNAGLO 22,300 BTU heater? I,m trying to finish up my preps and need a real figure for how long my fuel stores will last (may need more!) Thanks!

the following is from:

"Be sure to check the specification sheet with the heater to see how much kerosene they burn per hour. Then calculate how many hours each day times number of days you want to store to calculate your fuel needs. For instance a typical portable kerosene heater produces 23,000 BTUs by burning 1 gallon every 6 to 8 hours. So if you use it 16 hours a day you will need 2-3 gallons/day. This may not seem like a lot but if you have four months of winter you will need 240-360 gallons. That's lots of 5 gallon cans or one large storage tank. And that only heats one heater for 2/3 of the day"

Your local heating oil company probably has a few 55 gal drums of K-1 kero on hand or could order in as many as you might need for the winter. Don't delay though. Check the yellow pages, and call Monday.

22,000 is a pretty big heater. You might want to have a smaller one for weather that is not too cold. We have an 80,000 BTU furnace for a 4 BR farmhouse, and most of the time it runs on low fire, which is at a 40,000 BTU rate. We have a 11,000 BTU, and recently picked up a 22,000 at an auction.

We suspect that with the lamps, and baking which will be going on, for most of the time, the 10,000 will be adequate. If we have a house full of people (people produce 300+ BTU/hr) we may be able to heat it with body heat. :)

keepin' on,
