Secrecy alleged on gay rights By DAVID YEPSEN Register Staff Writer 10/15/1999

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A leading conservative activist in Iowa accused Gov. Tom Vilsack Thursday of secretly signing an executive order establishing homosexual rights in state employment.

Bill Horn, the president of the Straight From the Heart ministry in Altoona, said the order is "an extreme position and he's done it in secrecy."

He said the order would allow men who dress in women's clothing to use female restrooms in state offices and sets up "affirmative action programs that require the state to recruit cross-dressers, transgenders and she-males" for state jobs.

Joe Shannahan, the governor's press secretary, denied Horn's charges and said, "This administration believes in civil rights."

Vilsack announced the measure at a Sept. 9 news conference. However, Des Moines Register accounts of that news conference do not mention homosexual rights.

Shannahan acknowledged that discussion of expanded employment rights for homosexuals "does not appear on the (news) release" announcing the order. But he said the governor mentioned it during the news conference, although it "was more of a civil rights discussion," Shannahan said.

Vilsack's order was not signed until Sept. 14. Brian Gentry, the governor's legal counsel, said the order was signed later because there were some final details that needed to be worked out. He said a rough draft of the document was never provided to reporters Sept. 9 because it wasn't a finished product.

In the order, Vilsack says "that an individual shall not be denied access to state employment opportunities because of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status or physical or mental disability."

Horn said the reference to gender identity "is something he could not get through the Legislature. It is not the will of the people. It's his payback to a bunch of homosexual activists."

Horn also released a clipping from the Washington Blade, a homosexual-rights publication, that said, "Iowa is believed to be the first state to implement an order that includes protection against discrimination based on gender identity as well as sexual orientation."

The article quotes Peg Sandeen, a spokesperson for the Iowa Coalition for Human Rights, a homosexual-rights political organization, as saying, "We have been working with the governor since before he got elected, talking about what our community was willing to do to get him elected and what he could do for us."

Shannahan said there would not be any specific affirmative action program aimed at recruiting homosexuals to state employment.

"The intention of the Vilsack-(Lt. Gov. Sally) Pederson administration is simply that there will be no discrimination," he said.

Yes, Iowa, and everywhere else for that matter is becoming more and more bizarre. Its just plain sad.

Which idocy would that be, the Governor who believes in civil rights? or the ministry guy who complained about it?

-- (people@are.people), October 16, 1999.

Civil Rights, what a concept. What the hell, child molesters have civil rights dont they? Drug addicts have civil rights dont they? Lets give everyone freedom to act as they wish so their civil rights are not violated. And to you advocates of unrestrained sexual orientation, please dont bother to complain when your little Ralphie declares that he is now your little Rachel, and wants you to meet your future whatever-in-law. Iowa would have been my last candidate to sanction this type of outrageous activity. The hogs must be delighted.

>> What the hell, child molesters have civil rights dont they? <<

Yes, they do. Their rights do not include the right to molest children, though. Didn't you know that?

However, if you are ever accused of molesting children, you might appreciate having the civil right to a fair trial before a jury of your peers. That right is designed to give you a fighting chance to win your case. Assuming you are innocent. Or do you believe that only the guilty are ever accused?

>> Drug addicts have civil rights dont they? <<

Yes. Absolutely. If you think that addiction to drugs reduces them to some kind of non-human legal status, then you may be surprised to find that killing a drug addict on a whim is still regarded as murder. Robbing them is still theft. Beating them is still assault. And so on.

>> Lets give everyone freedom to act as they wish so their civil rights are not violated. <<

You seem to have a very weak grasp of what civil rights are or what they mean. Our civil rights are designed to restrain the power of the civil authorities, by asserting that whenever the laws are applied to us, that we are treated no worse than others, and no better.

>> And to you advocates of unrestrained sexual orientation... <<

Now there is a strange phrase. Exactly how do you go about restraining sexual orientation? An orientation is a condition, not an action. Several centuries of active legal and social repression have only succeeded in driving it out of sight, not out of existance. Do you think that people are so attracted to being reviled and treated like dogs and outcasts that they seek out that status?

>> ...please dont bother to complain when your little Ralphie declares that he is now your little Rachel, and wants you to meet your future whatever-in-law. <<

Exactly what would there be to complain about? That Ralphie failed to live up to your expectations for him?

Well Brian, sounds like your butt is a little sore today.

"He said the order would allow men who dress in women's clothing to use female restrooms in state offices.."

Now wait, I'm a female with all the required body parts, does that mean if I wear pants and a tie I can use the men's room? Not that I would want to, they always smell so bad, but sometimes in an emergency when there's a line in the ladie's room it could come in handy...

hmm...why don't they just install a third toilette room called "Other (enter at your own risk)"?

Though I might cringe when I think of my son seeing a person who cross dresses or is gay as a role model (don't plan on letting it happen) I must say that I know an older guy who is married and a father, active in the community in very conservative ways who happens to dress like a woman. I find no need to discuss it with him, I accept him as a good person and appreciate his work to better our community. Just my experience.

Couldn't have said it better, Brian.

People like "Don't bend over" should just admit that they want to live in a society where the mob rules. They don't want to live in society that for better or for worse is based on the rule of law. Yes, there will be many things in a law based society that will upset their sensibilities, things that they will have no control over. They must understand, however, that the mob can just as easily turn against them.

Society, and the people that make it up, often operate in weird and wonderful ways. I do things and have attitudes that you may not like, you do things and have attitudes that I may not like. I think that the key should be that people should have the right to do as they choose, as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. Molestation infringes on the rights of the molested. Lynching the molester without giving him or her a chance to defend himself infringes upon his right to defense. Little Ralphie going to work in a dress does not infringe on other people's rights, though it may upset their sensibilities.

"Don't" and "Disgusted", how would you prefer to structure society? Do you simply want what you want without allowing that others may want something completely different? If so, please say so.

DEAR,DEAR Flakygirl,You got it wrong, Scientific studies have demonstrated that bacteria levels are much higher in the ladies loo, also the graffitti is more course. The bacteria count is the result of the need to sit while performing both functions and the refusal of some ladies to sit on the seat, thats why we find so many footprints of street shoes on the seats. Some of the sisters have become acrobats to avoid contact with the seat(it's hard to aim while squating) so there, I hope you re-think this issue.

As someone who believes in God I have to say "your fate is up to God". But as a human being I shall say this, "Fuck you all and the horse you rode in on."

Firstly, assuming that guys who like to dress as women or "do" other guys is simply an alternate lifestyle rather than a perversion is sick in itself. I liken it to people who may like to have sex with ...roadkill for example. To the liberal way of thinking it too, should be considered an "alternate lifestyle" However, a person would be locked up for doin a dead deer! Because its a perversion. Just as guys doin guys is a perversion. Cross dressing is perhaps a mild symptom that something is going wrong in the head. Homosexuals should be given treatment (shock therapy?!?) for their perversion. Not encouraged to flaunt it. Politicians who whore themselves to any special interest group just to garner votes should be shot on the spot. Because their "whoring" impacts everyone.

-- Disgusted (sodom@gommorah.com), October 16, 1999.

Don't bother trying to talk sense to bigots who hide behind an alias, their minds are incapable of being opened.

Funniest thing is that numerous scientific studies have proven that those who scream the loudest about hating homos are the very same ones who get the biggest woody when shown gay porn in laboratory tests. Something to do with self loathing, and hating what lurks under the surface. So what "Disgusted" is really saying is that he is disgusted that he's not getting any boy tail, and "Dont bend over now" wants you to wait til nobody else is around, so he can indulge his most hidden desires.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), October 16, 1999.

Sounds like "unc" speaks from experience.... Perhaps he's a politician too! At least I didn't say the "homo's" should be shot. I merely stated that their disease should be treated, not applauded.

-- Disgusted (sodom@gommorah.com), October 16, 1999.

Well, well Uncle Dodem, sounds like you have a sore butt too! Got to love this forum dont cha! Doesnt take long for the Rump Rangers to come out of the woodwork. You sick phucks deserve each other.

-- Don't (bend@over.now), October 17, 1999.

You two are funny as hell, a real Frick and Frack team. Hey, maybe the sysops could introduce you two to each other, if y'all had some companionship for your lonely nights, maybe you two wouldn't be so grumpy! Haw haw haw.

Hey, here's a question, does it make me a retard too if I stick up for your right to make retards of yourselves? Does it make me a moron to say that you have a right to be morons? Hee hee hee. Or do only dumb-asses like yourselves stick up for other dumb asses? LOL.
