Why not?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

So here's the way i see it...

The first part of the initiative would remove the MVET. Which, in turn, would allow a personal property tax. My guess would be, if government can collect a tax, they will. So, the net effect would be a slight lowering of our vehicle taxes.

The second part of the initiative would make it so that there would have to be a public vote to increase taxes and fees. As i see it, this part will be found unconstitutional. The net effect would be tax dollars spent on attorney's fees.

So... my understanding of it is that funding to the state would not drop much (net loss).

In effect, there would be three reasons for not voting for it.

1. The voter would not want a small decrease in vehicle taxes. 2. The voter would not want to spend tax dollars on attorneys fees. 3. The voter does not think taxes are too high and believes that our representatives spend the money wisely.

In contrast, there would be the following reasons for voting for it.

1. The voter wants a small decrease in vehicle taxes. 2. The voter is willing to spend the tax dollars on attorney's fees to make a statement to the state government, that statement being "Our taxes are too high, and are not being spend efficiently"

All commments are welcome, but the way i see it, i choose to vote for it. If for no other reason, to get the message through.
