Irrational weakness

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was watching CNBC financial stuff this morning and one of the experts was encouraging people to take advantage of the market lows right now especially if it(the dip) is because of "irrational weakness like the Y2K bug." I swear that was almost exactly what he said(I even wrote it down when he said it)

The Surgeon General should require them to add a warning to the bottom of the screen like 'WATCHING CNBC IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR FINANCIAL HEALTH'.

I wouldn't want to be one of these CNBC polly ostriches next February or March and if I were one of them I surely wouldn't want my home address known to anyone.

Have you noticed all the new ads - esp. the sports related ones - trying to show Joe Sixpack how easy and cheap it is to be his own broker? The PTB need fresh suckers to buy so they can sell and get out of Dodge before the Tsunami hits.

--a mom: I watch CNBC every morning, and for the past 2 weeks, they are mentioning Y2K more and more as a reason for a particular companies earnings to be low, or sales slipping as a result of Y2K. Yesterday was too much on CNBC, they all looked like they just ate a rotten egg instead of Sushi. One commentator was even selling Girl Scout cookies! It was actually entertaining to watch it all unfold.

Stock watcher,

Something I find fascinating about CNBC--when they do mention y2k.

That is pretty much all they do--mention it---as opposed to all their analysis as to what is affecting the markets. Everytime they come to y2k they will say ---"and then there is y2k"".

But strangely unlike any other topic they just move on without addressing what THEY think the ramifications are. It is pretty comical.

Remember, the talking heads at Bubblevision are script readers...nothing more. They wouldn't know a failing A/D line from a line at the grocery store. Their producers are given marching orders from the brokerage houses.

CNBC has really turned into an infommercial for the brokerage industry. Most of the announcers have very little understanding of the markets or economy.
