Even 32-bit-based (Win 95/98-based[!]) payphones can claim to only be "Y2K ready."

The ASTRATEL 2 uses sophisticated 32-bit Digital Signal Processing, enabling communications speeds up to 14.4 K baud, and on-board memory expandable to 2 megabytes. The company manufactures a variety of models from basic coin phones to state-of-the-art units with data port, magnetic card readers and vacuum fluorescent displays. Software for the ASTRATEL 2 is in the Windows 95/98 format and Y2K-ready.

14.4Kb is state-of-the-art, sophisticated? Indeed. LOL!! Marketeers are humorous, sometimes, if not pathetic.

Company Press Release

ATI Expands Base with Intellicall

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 1999--Intellicall, Inc. (AMEX:ICL - news) today announced that Advanced Telecom Integrations (ATI) of Jacksonville, Texas, has signed an agreement to purchase in excess of $550,000 worth of ASTRATEL. 2 intelligent payphones.

ATI plans to install the units in New Mexico, Texas and Arkansas. The first shipment against the order was made on October 6. An additional order of approximately $300,000 is expected within the next month.

ATI was founded in 1997 by John Adair, chief executive officer and a veteran of the independent payphone provider (IPP) industry. Over the past 24 months, Adair has taken ATI from start-up status to an installed base of close to 3,000 Intellicall payphones, installing approximately 100 phones per month. The company, which operates equipment in 18 states, achieved the growth without acquiring other IPPs. 98% of the phones are ASTRATEL 2 units; Intellicall UltraTel intelligent payphones managed for third-party owners comprise the remaining two percent.

``Intellicall's engineering and system architecture are far superior to any other payphone manufacturer's, and that translates into operational flexibility unachieveable with other phones,'' said Adair. ``Intellicall is also the only U.S. payphone manufacturer that offers 32-bit processing on their boards and a complete line of 32-bit Windows 95/98 software. I've been in the industry for many years, and when you see the kind of dedication to technology development that Intellicall has, there's no reason look at other products.''
