From tomorrow's Telegraph:

Funerals face Millennium delays

UNDERTAKERS have given a warning that funerals and cremations could be delayed at the Millennium because of a shortage of coroners, registrars and doctors to sign death certificates over the holiday

The Funeral Standards Council also fears that many cemeteries and crematoriums will be shut. It has complained of a "lack of co-ordination" from a variety of authorities and called for urgent talks to prevent additional distress. While agreements have been reached in some parts of the country to ensure that funerals take place, elsewhere negotiations have still to be completed.

And they say the only sure things in this world are death and taxes...

Possibly 3+ Billion expired, yes, this might be one area lacking in sufficient contingency plans. Even two weeks without electricity will strain the mortuary/crematory facilities.

Don't they have traveling incinerators in NC? (shudder!)
