Nightline did a peice on biological warfare last week. Makes me wonder about the possibilty of the world's deadliest viruses being unleashed on mankind if the CDC has some serious Y2K issues.Anyone else thought about that?

If I were to equate Y2K to a movie I'd have to go with "The Matrix" as the disconnect of the average mentally-under-another's-control person in the film is pretty close to relaity it would seem... "The Stand," the first two part of the four, would be good for a biowar scenario, but after the second part the film gets stupid IMHO.

Oh well, the playing field' gonna get levelled shortly...

Yes, I thought of such things, in fact I had been talking with someone about that recently. We hear in society of vague, strange, and mysterious islands, basements, labs and so forth deeply buried in the intelligence community, and one does then ponder what is there, and can it escape due to Y2K? The ape with a deadly strain? Ala Bat-Boy? Hannibal Lector?

The government's apparent cover-up of the Y2K bug does seem to be paralleling the cover-up of the bio-war accident discribed the Stand.

Donald A. Henderson, MD, MPH - Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies, was the lead person in the WHO campaign to eliminate smallpox around the world. If anyone understands infectious disease and dealing with them I'd put my money on him.

In an interview regarding the "New Yorker" piece about CIA concerns about Iraq possibly having been responsible for the west nile bug showing up in the U.S. he basically said that the possibility of a bioterrorism incident in the U.S. is a near certainty during the next decade.

I think he's terribly optimistic but hope not....DCK
