As you are well aware, many *famous* posters no longer post here.

Where are they now?

I don't know, but I do wonder about their current thoughts.

Do any of you plan to vacate this forum and stop visiting before Y2K?

I know that there are numerous personal problems which interfere with cyberspace continuity and prevent poignant postings from being transmitted into this wonderful forum.

Reality can be extremely harsh, and Internet sharing must be sometimes curtailed.

I have seen the exodus of numerous posters. They have stated they will not return, and their absences have been noted.

However, the most exciting weeks of this year are yet to come!

But previous posters won't be here to share their insights. :(

I know the regular posters, and I'm thankful that they will continue to provide their excellent insights.

How many of you are cognizant that geniuses post on this forum?

As you know, the Internet will soon experience a temporary crash.

Yes, there will be downtime.

Soon there will be MAJOR DOWNTIME with NO CONNECTIONS!

Y2K is systemic. A little here, a little there, and then the collapse initiates into a MAJOR NIGHTMARE OF CASCADING FAILURES.

You won't hear this warning from the US goverment. They do not want anyone to panic. Panic is anathema to general civility and the comfort zone of the pacified public masses.

Will you remain to post until the last syllable of recorded cyberspace?

I've lurked for two years. I've been military for three dacades. There has not been a single chatroom that I cared to contribute to until I found you people. Yes, I've seen genius on this forum. I've also seen dangerous people that "troll" doesn't fit, they are trolling for Alligator Gar! Possibly Gubmint. But I think I landed here through (don't get too literal here) divine direction, whatever the hell that is. I think I'll ride it out right here, thank ya'. I e-mailed a response to David Butts about my personal encounter with a banking clerk this Saturday morning.

I was told that there was a $3000 withdrawal limit of cash per daily visit.

I was curious, and man, was I ever surprised at the response!

If Androgynous Person has a $10,000 deposit at my bank, then AP can NOT withdraw all of the funds on one day. No. AP must go back the next day and next and the next until AP's legally deposited funds can be removed.

This is a total scam! Fractional Reserve Lending is a fraud upon the American public and the rest of the world.

As of 9OCT99, a limitation of $3000 daily withdrawal is being enforced at my bank.

Soon there will be more restrictions.

Will the public become irritated or totally spooked?

I perceive that soon there will be armed guards at every bank to ensure that no frantic disturbances erupt. This will make the national and local news. Then people will become VERY concerned and plan to visit their local banking establishments.

And of course, they will be met with "new restrictions".

If you have much moola in your bank account, then I suggest you remove it while you can!

Most banks, as far as I know, will allow you to take out a large amount, but you must give them a few days notice. They just don't have that much cash "on hand" on any given day. <:)=

Ahhhh, these people who make these big melodramatic exits, are just taking a page from "The Madonna Cincone Guide to Instant Celebrity". Leave em' at a high point, so they'll always remember you fondly. Call me a die-hard cynic, but I suspect a lot of these "absent friends" are back with a new name and a new IP, feeding their egos on all those, "Remember so and so? The forum just hasn't been of the same high quality since he/she left" comments. I'll definitely hang around to see what people report. For those who are in it for the long haul, it might be a good idea to give status reports here. The demographics and the geographic representation amongst the contributors here is quite diverse/broad; if you had folks representing their geographical areas (cities/parts of the state), we could possibly get a macro-level view of the situation.

If I see or experience anything and have the ability to do so, I'll probably be reporting from my neck 'o the woods.

Taz wouldn't be anywhere else...except that I will also be trying to keep my eye on the web site that has people reporting in from all over the world, plus the TV coverage with Peter Jennings as "IT' travels 'round the world. We will be on our generator but my 1997 Compaq is non compliant. So I will probably crash! Don't know. Thinking of getting a new computer, but don't trust the bastards that it will be compliant in all ways. Microheart still seems to be in a state of updating patches with more patches.

I also remember you stating that you ran some software? and the result was non-compliance. Could you drop me an E-mail with some details on this? I'm a FNG at this forum, been here a couple of weeks and I plan to spend my new years here and at Free Republic. There's still a lot of DGI's and DWGI's over there.

As long as the power holds out. BTW, can I run my computer off of an inverter / battery combination, or will the AC be too "dirty" to power my computer, tv and/or vcr correctly?

The inverter I have is a 300W and cost about 90 bucks.

Action bill- depends on your inverter- most computers need a modififed sine wave to function- also depends on the wattage your computer uses. I am off-grid and always use my computer with inverter/batteries- but my inverter is a $$$ Trace. You can always just try it out and see.

I'll be here as long as my ISP is up and going. We have alternate electric system with trace inverter, so will be able to use the computer. I do plan on checking in on the jrwhipple site - they have signed up people all around the globe to "report" on what is happening in their areas. Quite a few signed up for USA, Canada, and parts of Europe....wish there were more from Asia,Africa,etc.

I'm reminded of the early days of AOL, before many people were using the World Wide Web or Internet Relay Chat. Every Monday night they would shut down for a couple hours to do regular maintenance. Whoever happened to be online at the time would talk until the last possible second. Conversation tended toward the melodramatic.

First, I'm not known as a particularly graceful person. What I do, I do clumsily.

Second, I don't quit. I was the last one out the door at two companies that failed (wasn't my fault, either). After leaving my last duty station, on my way to being discharged, I evaluated some stuff for my superiors, and submitted my last report AFTER becoming a civilian again.
