Yep - they sure are... I ordered mine, got one, then two, then three... all the same. I hope the world isn't waiting for Gates and company to save them from Y2K. But then again I'm sure it was just a human error...

When you call, you listen to a lot of legal statements. When you order a CD-ROM from Microsoft, you may think you are getting software. No. You are getting a Y2K disclosure statement, protected by law.

Translation: in exchange for the CD-ROM, you reliquish your right to sue Microsoft for Y2K bugs. You call them, they put you and your company name in their database. This will be used to shield them post-year 2000.

My understanding is that these are quarterly updates to SOME of their programs. If not, they are leading folks to believe this is the case.

As far as relinquishing my rights to take Microsoft to court I could care less. If it gets that bad there will be plenty of class actions against them and many others.

I also received 3, count them, 3 CDs -- all identical -- from the Gates Empire. I only ordered it to check out some PCs in my classroom, because I own a Mac.

I have all 3 packages sitting on the kitchen table to remind me that the software company that millions of companies rely on cannot perform the most simple of tasks.

It will be sweet watching them crash and burn, even if they take the economy with them.

Funny thing, when I opened up this thread, there at the bottom was that goofy picture of Gates. Almost scared the crap out of me.

I got 3 in three weeks, hardly a confidence booster.

I got 3 MS Y2K CD's, one dated Jan99, two dated Apr99, three dated Aug99. The August one is best with NT Service Pack 5 and IE 5, and two Win98 Y2K updates plus other stuff.

I got two in one day last week, a total of 6 in two months. I tried to use it on my laptop to see just what was up. I could not do anything to correct known problems because I need to log onto their website. This is was the only way to get corrections and this particular machine is modemless. No corrections for this computer. I wonder how many machines out there need a fix but are not online?

I called MS yesterday to order. Their phone messaging is clearly misprogrammed, their operator is clueless about their phone messaging. Nobody asked me to swear to, disclaim or waive anything. They DID ask me for my company name and address, but I'm gonna guess that was simply so they could mail it. We'll see if the CD gets here and what it contains.
