A bit of frivolity

A Y2K Poem

"More Than Fantasy. Less Than Faith"

More than fantasy, less than faith, More than vapor, less than wraith, The bug is creeping, crawling forth, We are forewarned, give thanks to North!

Nobody knows just why we failed, The cost too high, the leaders wailed, The time too short, the prophets cried, The politicos, be sure, have lied

I fought denial, anger, hate, To finally come to accept the fate Of mindless machines that time our doom, Of waiting lists, run out of room

I see a playground, full of laughter, Then vision comes of two months after: No joy, no children, no safety found, And many souls laid in the ground.

I fear the same unyielding fate For dearest loved ones small and great, And friends and heroes, close and removed. For even enemies so long reproved.

Yet I cannot with certain trust Say that all of life is bust. Theres always doubt, no one can say What will happen until that day

Regardless, lest I sure despair To say there is no sure repair, From time to time a gleam of faith Renews my spirit, lightens my gait.

Surely no one will let things fall? Why, we would lose it all in all! The stakes are high, the chances slim, The unknown powers would let lights dim?

I just dont fathom reasons for The closed mouth front, the welded door. No one comes clean, or dares comes out To fully discharge all the doubt.

So day by day I haste prepare, For no one knows what waits us there, Beyond the dreaded date we know, Of one-slash-one-slash-double-oh!

So come my friends, lets gather round, Well keep our ears upon the ground And try to prophesy what waits To bring to harbor all our fates.

I know for me, and those I love, We keep our trust in God above. For if His will is judgment sure Regardless, we must love Him pure!

So, go back to the dehydrating packing and de-oxy-nating, Oiling up our twenty-twos And fighting off the daily blues.

The day will be here sure and swift And each new day is now a gift Dont squander time, or show confusion. Prepare right now, its no delusion!

Theres better than a fifty-fifty You will be glad youve been so thrifty And put away so many rolls Of toilet paper, and mixing bowls

So as for me, and hope for you The sky will always be this blue If we can come through and survive, Ill see you on the other side!
