More on cookbook for dehydrated foods

Sorry for the delay in answering the questions posted a few days ago on my earlier thread, but I've been away. The cookbook I bought is the same one posted on their web site: Mix-A-Meal Cookbook. It has recipes to make dry MIXES from your own ingredients, which then can be used in recipes for a complete food item or meal. For instance, the basic biscuit mix--flour, dehydrated shortening or margarine, powdered milk, dehydrated egg, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, baking soda) is used to make biscuits, pot pies, pizza, crackers, cream puffs, tempura, fritters, breakfast cake, etc. You don't have to buy stuff from them to assemble the mixes or make the recipes.

The cookbook covers making dehydrated mixes for breads, sauces, soups, salad dressings, onion soup, maple syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and more. The meals you assemble with these mixes range from swedish meatballs to taco salad. IMHO it offers a lot of variety of satisfying foods using the dried stuff in my pantry! One I liked is a potato mix to add to fresh or dehydrated mashed potates: it uses dehydrated butter, powdered milk, salt, dehydrated cheese and onion powder. Can also be used to coat potatoes for oven fries. Anyway, not being creative in the kitchen, particularly with long-term storage items, I'm glad to have this book. By the way, I didn't buy it through the net - I found it at the bulk food store nearby. I paid around $9.00, I believe.

Sounds like a great find. I'd like to have a copy too, please post details. In the meantime, here are two posts giving recipes for a few mixes from the old forum:
