Prince Willaim Sound

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Taken during a one day cruise from on board the tour vessel. Since I was standing on a "moving platform," the camera was hand held on aperture priority at f/2.8 to ensure a high shutter speed. Canon EOS 630, 85mm f/1.8 USM, polarizing filter, Kodak E100S. Additional images from this cruise can be found on my personal web pages at

Looks nice but is that a Boat ?? if so it probably does not belong here.....

Jan, the white spots in the water are chunks of ice from the glaciers.

It looks like a fine photo, but my comments are otherwise directed. The remark of "is it a boat?" is typical of the kind of response that stops some people from posting this forum. The scan looks a bit dark - anything shot at midday needs the midtones lifted a bit to look good on a monitor.

Nice frame but water seems too dark.

Thank-you all for your comments!

This is one of those shots that both pleases and disappoints me at the same time. Beautiful day, beautiful scenery but too much contrast. I had the original slide printed as a cibachrome and of course, the print's contrast is excessive. Since the cruise on Prince William Sound was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and this image is a good representation of what I saw, I have learned to overlook the defect and appreciate it for what it is.

Thanks again for your comments.

This looks like a candidate for a grad neutral density filter...
