Tourney 2 - Track N' Field rules to be discussed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

There seems to be good evidence that Track N' Field will be submitted into the tournament - but the voters were not specific on how it was to be played.

I hope we all realize that you can't use Run Like Heck, or you can't use autofire - what I wanted to know is are we going to play one round only, or play infinate rounds? I prefer the infinate rounds personally... that way people would have to show that they're good PAST round one. I wonder what TG has to say about this issue...

TG says one round only!

What the hell is T&F being submitted to the tournament for? People have done nothing but whinge about cheating in that game for the past year......

The way the voting currently works, if 2 people vote high for a game, its most likely going to be in the tournamanet. Even if the other 10-20 players do not vote for it or do not want it.

Might I suggest gang voting? If you want a game in the tourney, gang vote with 2 or 3 others.

A gang vote for 3 games, one from each person could get a score of 27 for each game.

A 5 way gang vote could probably get all there top 1 picks in the tourney.

So, if 3 people vote fairly high for TnF we all get to play it.

Incase I wasn't clear, here is an example for a 5 person gang vote where each persons top pick would earn 40 points. As it is right now, if nobody votes for the games you chose, your votes are useless. So unless you change your vote to what other people have chosen why vote?

I would personally wish to have this game considered to be banned from the tournament now and forever, due to the very easy opportunity to cheat, and the fact that the game never really progresses to be harder.

TG says one round only ... for good reason. All changing the difficulty does is raise the minimum to keep going - it is no harder (except for player fatigue/boredom) to get an 8m long jump the 50th time than it was the first time.

As far as how the games are being picked: My suggestion on this for the first tournament was to let each player pick 1 game. The first 10 acceptable votes get in, and those ten people may not vote next tournament (to give others a chance). I'm not sure myself it's a better way, but I think it's the only other idea anyone has had.

I've got to agree with Greg and Chris on this one. After all the trouble that this game has created, why would we want to set up another round of controversy? No one has yet to resolve much of anything the first time around. A few theories abounded but without resolution. I personally would like to see the voters on this game reconsider their choice. Surely there are games out there that are more challenging and much less likely to cause bad feelings among the MARP faithful.

hmmmm... JoustGod, Chris, and Greg all have good points - but there seems to be evidence of detecting RLH and autofire - Zwaxy was able to detect such things if I'm not mistaken. But now here's the question: Is it 100 % accurate? Can we believe it's 100% accurate? If not, then perhaps we should disqualify it, which I have no problem with. If we are confident with 100 % accuracy, then we'll keep it - but we'll need to come up with a judge that can detect such illegal activity.

Just my two cents:

I have no valid reason, but I really, really don't want to see Track & Field in this tourney. ;) I'm aware that there's a degree of skill to it, but it's just ~formulaic~ button mashing to me. And I do like my keyboard. Even if it is an el cheapo.

About "group voting": What if we had two rounds of voting, second round everybody would choose their 10 favourites of first round top 30? games?

Hey Ben Jos, deleting your TF-vote rises DK from 11 to 10, simply coincidental? :~) :~)

Otherwise I've got no comments on TF... TJT

Tommi:

It would have been a coincidence, but I just checked and it doesn't affect DK's position in the list; my T&F vote was for 6 points only, so that still puts it above DK. The only way I can get DK higher is if I drop Pooyan from my list altogether. Do people actually vote like that? I mean dropping games from your list in favour of another results in something that is no longer a list of your 10 favourites...
