Why did Direct TV satellite service start charging me wa sales tax

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

On my September bill from Direct TV, Satellite Service. I receive a surprise. Included was a Sales Tax of $3.76 on a $57.97 charge. I contacted Direct TV about this charge and to date they have failed to call me back. Only Wash State can add a sales Tax. My present T.C.I. bill has no sales tax only a Franchise Fee $.62, FCC Regulatory Fee $.04 State Excise Tax $.18 total $.84 on a $11.80 charge. With all the customers in the State of WA of, DISH , Direct TV, and PrimeStar all this extra cash will be easy money for them as they don't anything for us.

Count your blessings. When I lived in France they had something that was referred to as the "air tax." It was what you paid to inhale and exhale while on the soil of the Republique. It can get a lot worse, and will unless the voters approve I-695. If it fails it will signal to the politicians that there is no consensus that taxes are high enough.
